GISELE BERTALANFFY
(nee LAVIMODIERE)
She was born in Montreal, QC on July 7, 1930, daughter of Albertine Filion and Eudore Lavimodière and was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Felix Bertalanffy in 1999.
Gisèle met her husband, - who was from Vienna, Austria - when he was a student at McGill University. They married in Montreal in 1954 and moved to Winnipeg a year later. Though they intended staying only two years, decided to make Winnipeg their permanent home.
Felix and Gisèle travelled extensively to many countries in Europe, Turkey, Morocco and took several trips to Japan also. After Felix died, she toured with the Associates of the Winnipeg Art Gallery to Belgium, Holland, Germany, Mexico and India.
Gisèle was a volunteer guide at the Winnipeg Art Gallery where her work was most appreciated. A Master's Degree in Art History informed her presentations throughout the 18 years that she toured people through the various galleries. Being fluent in English, French and German also enhanced Gisèle's ability to share her love of art with countless visitors to the Gallery. In 2019 she was delighted to attend a reception at Government House to celebrate 70 years of WAG volunteers.
To say that Gisèle loved the arts - MTC, Symphony Pops, Rainbow Stage, Opera and Le Cercle Molière was an understatement. She was a woman with an active and intelligent mind who greatly enjoyed the programs and social events with members of the University Women's Club.
Gisèle will be fondly remembered by her relatives and friends in Quebec, her lifelong friend, Micheline Berthiaume whom she met when five years old, as well as many friends in Winnipeg and those she met in her travels to Japan.
A special thank you is extended for the compassionate, patient and loving care extended to Gisele in the time she spent living at Misericordia Place.
A Service of Remembrance and burial will take place at Notre Dame de Neige Cemetery, Montreal at a later date.
