It is with great love and sadness that we say goodbye to Marilyn (Marlene) Lenora Schalla (nee Betzold), aged 85, of Steinbach, who passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at the Bethesda Regional Health Centre after recently being diagnosed with cancer.
Marilyn is survived by her loving husband, Wilbert, daughter Sandra (Colin) Kihn, their family, Dana (Stephane) Saindon; Chloe Kihn and Brett Kihn; daughter Candice (Mark) Kihn their family, Chelsey (Jayme) Gunderson and Silas; Bailey (Doug) McLachlan, Kenzie and Sydney and daughter Barbara (Pierre) Gosselin and their family, Pierre-Alexandre (Brittany) Gosselin, Mackenzie (Kiah) Gosselin, brothers Ken (Grace) Betzold, Raymond (Lorraine) Betzold, sister Sharon (Abe) Doerksen, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marilyn was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Alvina Betzold, sister and brother-in-law Noreen and Dick Wiebe, mother and father-in-law Pauline and Rudolph Freund, sister-in-law Elma Schalla and sister and brother-in-law Romelda and Bill Fuchs.
Mom was a fighter! She overcame cancer in the late 70s and then again in the 90s. A couple of years ago mom had a mild stroke and then on November 6 she was admitted to the hospital and received a double dose of bad news a diagnosis of cancer and the Covid virus. She beat Covid however it was cancer that took her home.
Marilyn (Marlene), wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister. Marlene and Wilbert were married on June 2, 1956. They had been married for 64 years.
Marilyn lived a very full and satisfying life. Family was everything to her, life revolved around them and she was so proud of each and every one of them.
Marilyn grew up in the Friedensfeld Area. She was baptized, confirmed, and married in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She was also a Sunday School teacher for many years. Her faith remained strong and true throughout her life.
The private family live streamed memorial was held on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.
