DELMORE (DEL) STADNYK
Predeceasing him were his parents, Millie in 1979 and Harry in 1989. Left to cherish his memory are his life partner Deborah Kiez, his sister Olivia (Ken), cousins and friends.
Del was born on October 9, 1951, his mother's birthday, in the Ukrainian hamlet of Vita, Manitoba. In 1955 the family moved to Winnipeg where Del graduated from Louis Riel Collegiate and then went on to study Accounting at the U of M where he made several bonds of lasting friendships. After receiving his Bachelor of Commerce Honours in 1973 he joined the firm of Thorne Ridell and completed the requirements for his CA designation. He placed in the top 20 in Canada in his UFE's and was honoured to be a marker of these exams; something he did for many years.
His career path of accounting took him to New Flyer Industries in Winnipeg, Dome Petroleum in Calgary, Sovereign Energy in Houston, Texas and ELG Metals in Hermitage, Pennsylvania.
In 2000, when he retired and settled back in Houston, he had the good fortune to meet Deb, the love of his life, during a holiday in Puerto Vallarta. They enjoyed 20 years together and as Del put it, they were just "in sync", travelling, dining out, going to movies and concerts, listening to music, weekending at the cottage and just hanging out together.
Del's tremendous people skills were felt everywhere. He loved to engage anyone in a conversation to brighten their day. His bigger than life personality made him popular with people of all ages. Always upbeat, he was a master at working a crowd conversing with each person and taking a sincere interest in their lives. He had a bit of teacher in him as he tended to always instruct and provide counsel. Consequently close friends and their children called him "Uncle Del".
His camera was always with him and all social gatherings, large or small were chronicled in pictures. You could always expect an inbox full of snapshots after any get-together. Many of his friends were the recipients of video slide presentations with music and comments produced by Del and Deb. Poems "a la Del" were the tour de force for milestone birthdays and anniversaries.
He devoted countless hours of energy and love to the family cottage at Jessica Lake, a place to enjoy with family and friends. Cottage season always started with a list of projects to be tackled and if he wasn't working on the cottage he was eager and willing to help the neighbours which always included well meant but unsolicited advice. Being a perfectionist, projects were thoroughly researched and fastidious in execution.
Always the accountant he kept meticulous personal records with copious spread sheets. His computer and all things tech were his second love.
Del will be fondly remembered and dearly missed for his gregarious nature, his kind heart and his generosity.
Sincere thanks go out to the Breckons and their children, Del's Texas family, for their compassion, support and help at this difficult time, as well as the outpouring of messages from friends and family.
As per Del's wishes cremation has taken place and celebrations of his life will take place in Houston and Winnipeg.
If so desired, donations in Del's memory may be made to the Commerce Class of '72 Scholarship Fund at the University of Manitoba.

Hello, I am sure that Del has never mentioned my name. In 1980 I was a summer student in Calgary working for Del at Canadian Marine Drilling (Dome Petroleum). It was though Del's inspiration that I chose to become a Chartered Accountant and to pursue the professional path that I have since lived. He was definitely larger than life and I have many great memories from that summer. I have never forgotten Del and wanted to share that memory. Please accept these condolences from a stranger for your loss. Geoff Baldwin, CPA, CA Chair, Chartered Professional Accountants of Nova Scotia - Posted by: Geoff Baldwin (Colleague ) on: Feb 17, 2021

We had the pleasure of living next door to Del in Houston. We were invited to visit the house at Lake Jessica where we met his sister, Olivia, and my kids were introduced to perogies, which they loved. Del and Deb visited us in San Antonio after we moved. We miss his outgoing and warm nature. Please accept our heartfelt condolences. - Posted by: Jeannie and David Frazier (Friends) on: Feb 08, 2021

We were both shocked and saddened to read of Del's sudden passing. The beautifully written tribute and his picture so perfectly describe the person that he was. His happy disposition and zest for living were always evident at the lake, where we first met Del in the 1960's. Del's treasured memory, beautiful spirit and wonderful legacy will live on in those who knew and loved him. Our heartfelt condolences to Olivia, Deb and all the family. - Posted by: Ken and Linda Boughton (Friends from Jessica Lake) on: Feb 06, 2021

Please know we are thinking of you @ this time Deb & wish that we could be there in person to comfort you. Del sounded like such a great guy & we were so glad you two found each other. It reminds me of a quote from Jill Kinmount a skier “How lucky I’m to have known someone & loved someone that saying goodbye to was so damed “ awful “ - Posted by: Jayne Steeves & Gerry Browne (Deb’s Nursing Buddy 5 North) on: Feb 06, 2021

My heart felt condolences to Deb and the family & many friends of Del. Del was such a great guy and a great person. Although Del and I did not get to connect with each other very often over the years since our university days, I will always remember his enthusiasm, energy and friendship. Our road trip together to spend time with Jim & Laura Leigh still brings giggles. Del will be missed and often remembered. Peace brother. - Posted by: Larry Turner (Friend) on: Feb 06, 2021
