I am saddened this morning to hear of the passing of Maurice. He was my Step Dad Duncan's Uncle, although there was only two years between them. Maurice was the last born in his family, and Duncan was the last born to Maurice's oldest sister Margaret. They really were more like cousins their whole lives. Over the years, I would see Maurice and Minnie many times as they would travel through Indian Head, and would always stop at Mom and Duncan's. I was fortunate in 1995 to be able to fly into Fox lake with Duncan and Maurice, where we erected a cairn by Fox Lake in memory of Maurice's brother Harold who was killed in action in WWII. The three of us flew in while Great nephews Greg, Gary and friend Nutz drove in through the wilderness to get there. It was good to see the camp site by the lake, as we came in by pontoon plane. My most prominent memory of Maurice was his ability to tie knots. He had worked for the Winnipeg Art Gallary for years and had hauled art collections all over North America. Those collections had to be well fastened, and Maurice knew of knots that I had never heard of. Was fascinating to watch his work. Duncan of course passed away in April of 2020. While the family will miss them both dearly, it is comforting to know that they are together again and if I'm not mistaken, Maurice will be pouring Duncan of good shot of Crown Royal. What fun they will have talking over old times. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the whole family and of course to Minnie. Know that you are all in our thoughts. - Posted by: Don Ford (Step son of his nephew Duncan Spence) on: Feb 16, 2021
