BARBARA EILEEN KELCEY
(nee NOBLE)
1949 - 2021

Barbara passed away early on Tuesday, February 3, in Selkirk, Manitoba.
She is survived by her sons, Sean (Janne) of Selkirk, MB and Brian (Lindsey Wiebe) of Winnipeg; and grandsons, Duncan, Morgan and Nicholas.
Barbara was born in London, England, to a military family, living in Germany, Canada and Britain before marrying her late husband, Nelson Kelcey, in Toronto in 1968. While her sons were in school, she earned two degrees in history from the University of Victoria before earning a PhD in History from the University of Manitoba. Her academic work helped to revive the memory of a generation of forgotten women and their contributions to the history of Canada's North. Barbara lived her last four years thanks to a liver transplant from an unknown donor, leaving family and friends grateful for dedicated care from Selkirk Hospital, Selkirk's Tudor House, hospitals in Winnipeg and Toronto, and especially for patient help from neighbors and friends across Canada.
Cremation has taken place. A graveside service and interment will be held at a date to be confirmed later in 2021 at St. George's Anglican Church, Wakefield, MB alongside her husband's gravesite.
Condolences, photos and videos may be left on Barbara's tribute wall at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk,

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I first met Barb when our sons became friends. She was woman of fierce intelligence, grounded in faith, someone I was glad to know. We remained in touch after she moved out of B.C. We had not seen each other for several years before she died. Although her last years were difficult, coping with both her own and Nelson's health problems, she never seemed despondent when we talked. I have happy memories of time spent with Barb and will miss our telephone conversations. - Posted by: Margaret Morrison (friend) on: Mar 26, 2021
