DAVID KAPLAN

It is with great sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, zeyda and brother, Dave Kaplan.
He leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Lorraine, his three boys and their wives, Myles and Nicki, Kevin and Roxanne, Joel and Danna, as well as his brother's family, Harry and Barbara and Shawn and Carrie Kaplan. We were ecstatic that he was able to see his eight grandchildren, Josh, Sam and Louis, Ben and Anna, Max, Isaac and Asher, grow into young adults.
We will miss his easy smile and laughter, his ability to fix and help with anything, watching Jet games with him and spending time with him on the deck at his cottage at Winnipeg Beach. His legacy to his family will always be: Family first, be happy with what you've got, there is always someone out there worse off than you, and you can do anything you want to if you put your mind to it. He led by example with a mostly quiet, patient, classy temperament and was so easy to be around. We will forever miss him.
In lieu of flowers, Dave (Tevya) would appreciate a donation to Jewish Child and Family Services, (jcfswinnipeg.org).
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, health care aides and staff at St Boniface Hospital ward 6A west. Their kindness, dedication, thoughtfulness, humanity and support was greatly appreciated.

When we get to the end of our lives together,
the house we had, the cars we drove,
the things we possessed won't matter.
What will matter is that I had you,
and you had me.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • I remember growing up when Dave and Lolly would visit my parents Don & Laura McIntosh I thought Dave was the coolest person I ever met. I loved the way he talked and laughed. I have so many great memories of going to their cottage with my parents. Everyone had so much fun. My heart saddens to hear of your loss and you are in my thoughts. Our deepest condolences to you all. Jody & Glenn Perkins - Posted by: Jody Perkins (Family) on: Feb 18, 2021

  • Dave Kaplan was the husband to my cousin Lorraine. My heart is full to hear of his passing. Memories of Dave came from my first meeting him. I think I was 7 or 8 years old at the time. Either Dave and Lolly were celebrating their engagement or another fantastic reason to have a party I do not recall which. But I remember meeting Dave's laughing eyes, kind heart when he asked me to dance to The "TWIST". I was so excited that my new yellow dress popped the elastic waist band from twisting the night away! From adolescence to adulthood I had the great pleasure to be a part of Dave and Lolly's life. From babysitting the boys to great weekends at the beach to fun times at Bird River. Memories full of love, laughter and generosity will forever be in my heart. Cindy MacRae - Posted by: Cindy MacRae (Cousin ) on: Feb 18, 2021

  • We knew Dave just a little but it seemed like it was a much longer time. He had wonderful eyes to begin with BUT when he spoke of his wife and children and their spouses and his grandchildren his eyes lit up as if he had seen the Promised Land. Our deepest condolences to Dave's family. • We are so very saddened to hear of the passing of Mr Kaplan. As next door neighbours for decades at Winnipeg Beach we were witness to Mr Kaplan's work ethic and his commitment to his family. Mr Kaplan was always fixing or building something, making improvements so his children and grandchildren could enjoy the cherished lakefront cabin. The Beach will never be the same. Our deepest sympathies to the Kaplan family. Sincerely, the Smiths - Posted by: The Smiths (Long-time Neighbours) on: Feb 13, 2021
