NANCY MAE MCGREGOR
Sunrise: October 29, 1934
Sunset: February 3, 2021

Nancy was born in Toronto into a family of seven children, all girls. Her parents emigrated from England and she shared a strong bond with her mother, Edith Mae Bogie. Nancy was a force of nature - an intelligent, independent woman, ahead of her time. In her youth, she joined the Air Force where she had a brief career as a disk jockey. A steadfast member of Augustine United Church, she served as secretary and member on many committees. Nancy was a loving and protective mother of three sons, raising them to become strong, compassionate, family-oriented men. Valuing camp experiences for her boys, she became involved in Camp Stephens for many years.
Nancy pursued a university education when her boys were grown and in university themselves. A degree in social work led to employment with Children's Aid Society of Winnipeg and later, in the Pediatric Unit at Health Sciences Centre.
Nancy delighted in her grandchildren, enriching their lives with love, food and meaningful experiences. She was an integral part of their lives, attending hockey, soccer and rugby games, concerts, performances and school events and sharing her love of cooking. Nancy was a compassionate and pragmatic woman who touched many lives with her kindnesses and attention to the needs of others. We are so blessed to have loved and been loved by her.
Nancy is cherished by her three sons and their families: Perry (Rhael), David and Bev (Andrew and fiancée Stephanie, Ellen) and Scott and Alice (Stephen, Magdalena). Nancy was grateful for her close friends, Leslie, Rae, Anne and Peggy.
Cremation has taken place; a family service has occurred and Celebration of Life will occur later.
In place of flowers, please consider a donation to Camp Stephens Campership Fund or Augustine's Oak Table.
We, her family, are grateful for the care of doctors, nurses and staff at St. Boniface Hospital and, in particular Reverend Don Ross for his ministering and friendship.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • My Auntie Nan ,was one of my idols. She was a very smart strong woman .(she got that from my Grandmother) I tried to go to see her every time l went to Winnipeg. I loved how she told stories about my cousins familys And her grandchildren, she would tell me everything that they had been up to since my last visit. She made the best cup of tea and always made me laugh about all the things her family was doing or how the garden was doing at the Lions. What was new in the Library Perry, David, and Scott. My visits to Winnipeg will never be the same. (I hope grandma and the girls are sitting around a big table having tea ,telling stories and laughing. Love you all too the moon and back ❤❤ - Posted by: Betty Anne Yarych (niece ) on: Feb 14, 2021

  • Nancy McGregor I have always been a little in awe of Nancy. She often represented to me courage and acceptance and joy - an inspiration. My family and I had the privilege of sharing a connection with her and her family whenever we could. She was a woman who really cared about people and situations, and had the ability to make a positive difference in any work she undertook. I will miss the smile and courage she showed to the end of her life. God bless your spirit, Nancy. - Posted by: Joan Baragar (friend) on: Feb 14, 2021

  • It was an honour and pleasure to work with Nancy on the Volunteer Library Working Group in the Carolyn Sifton Library at Lions Place. She was steadfast, conscientious, and totally reliable. I loved her sense of humour, and her ability to see the bright side of things. She helped us immeasurably through both her personal and professional manner. We will miss you Nancy. Blessings on you, and to your family from the many friends here at Lions Place. - Posted by: Gerald Brown (Co-worker at Lions Place Library) on: Feb 13, 2021
