MITCHELL BLOSTEIN
1943 - 2021

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Mitchell Blostein on February 10, 2021 at the Grace Hospital.
Mitchell was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Stella; his nephew Charles, his brother-in-law Marcel, and his grandson Landon. Left to mourn him are his loving wife of 37 years, Lorraine; his children, Lynn (Andrew), Raymond (Ashley, Calvin), and Gilbert (Chelsea, Cali); his sister Cheryl; cousin David, and numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Mitch spent his early years helping his parents in their Transcona department store, Joe Blostein & Son Ltd. He eventually took over running the family business, and later opened his own store, Mitch's Hardware, in Lorette and Ile-Des-Chenes. Mitch valued hard work and community service, volunteering his time with the Jaycees, Rotary, and Masonic Lodge. An avid reader, Mitch enjoyed discussing current events and always made sure to save relevant newspaper clippings for family and friends.
We have many fond memories of summers spent with Mitch at the family cottage in West Hawk Lake, exploring the Whiteshell and finding the best places to pick blueberries. Mitch also had a passion for gardening. Every spring he carefully selected seeds from catalogues, and grew a wide variety of vegetables, which he proudly shared. He was also known for his perogies and cabbage rolls, which he made for us every Christmas.
The family would like to thank the staff of Grace Hospital unit 5S for their excellent care and compassion.
Cremation has taken place and a private ceremony will be held at a later date.
