(nee RIDLEY)
November 20, 1932 - February 10, 2021

It is with heavy hearts that we sadly announce Shirley's passing following a courageous battle with cancer at Deer Lodge Centre.
Left with many loving memories are her children, Maurice Duffy, Sandy Bacon (Lorne), Christine Symons (Will), her grandchildren, Brenley (Joel), Kelly (Craig), Samantha (Tyler) and Scott (Lezlie), and her great-grandsons, Beck, Woodson, Sawyer and future great-granddaughter. As well Mom leaves behind her loving sisters-in-law, Jeannette Ridley and Eileen Duffy, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Shirley was predeceased by her loving husband Albert (2010) and precious daughter Pamela (1957), brothers, Bill (Jackie), Ralph (Marg) and Jim, sister Joyce (Orm), and half-brothers, Melvin (Alma) and George.
Mom was born in Manitou, Manitoba. Her father Charlie, passed away at a young age and her mother Louisa (Lou) raised their children and stepchildren in a small house in town. At the young age of 16, Mom showed her independence and moved to Winnipeg on her own. A few years later she met Dad and the two were married for 55 years until Dad's passing.
Shirley's greatest joy in life was her family. She was a loyal mother that would sacrifice anything for her children. Mom and Dad loved their house, yard and garden on Beaumont Bay, their trips to Las Vegas and visits to the casino. Mom spent many years playing poker with the Friday night poker girls, enjoyed weekends with family at the lake, loved bingo and watching curling. Mom thoroughly enjoyed the friendships she made the past few years at Sterling House and loved her visits "outside the elevator" room.
We would like to thank the health care workers who tirelessly cared for Mom during the past seven months. With the COVID pandemic restrictions, Mom rarely missed a day when she wasn't able to see one of us, and for this we will be forever grateful.
A private family service is planned.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • My sincere sympathy to Shirley’s family. I met Shirley in 2006 when I was doing genealogy on the McIntyre/Ridley family of Manitou. She was so gracious and helpful and we spent many happy hours reminiscing about the past. My heart goes out to you in your time of sorrow. - Posted by: Judy (Acquaintance) on: Feb 17, 2021

  • Condolences to all my cousins. I have such fond memories of the many times our families got together over the years in the old days. I remember Aunt Shirley’s laughter well, and how much my dad Ralph loved his sisters and brothers. What a great family! Miss them all and sending love. ❤️ - Posted by: Earl Ridley (Nephew) on: Feb 14, 2021

  • My sincere condolences to Maurice, Sandy, Chris and families on the loss of your mom, grandma and great grandmother. Growing up in Fort Garry, everyone knew at least one of the iconic Duffy family members! I have no doubt that Al and Pamela were waiting with love and open arms, to greet Shirley. - Posted by: Louise O’Neill (Friend of Sandy’s) on: Feb 13, 2021
