MYRTLE YOUNG
(nee MCKNIGHT)

Peacefully, Myrtle Young passed away on February 14, 2021 at the age of 92 years, with family by her side.
She will be deeply missed by her two children, Andrew Young (Michelle), and Claudia Brown (Allan), and her four grandchildren, Samantha, Rachel, Jonathan and Michael, as well as many family and friends.
Myrtle grew up in Winnipeg, attending Daniel McIntyre Collegiate and working for her family's company Lion Storage before starting a family and a wonderful career with the City of Winnipeg, Parks and Recreation Division. Myrtle was a true athlete who loved to participate in many sports including speed skating, curling, swimming, tennis, jet skiing and waterskiing. She also loved to watch her beloved hockey games, cheering especially for the Winnipeg Jets and Toronto Maple Leafs. More than anything though, her greatest passion was music and entertaining. If she wasn't performing with her band in Winnipeg and later in Burlington, Ontario then she was entertaining residents in a nursing home or entertaining family around the piano in her living room. She passed both her musical and athletic gifts to her children and it gave her tremendous joy and pride to watch Andrew perform with his band, and to attend Claudia's gymnastic competitions and triathlons. She was also the greatest cheerleader at all of her grandchildren's music recitals, dance recitals, soccer games and hockey games.
Family and friendship meant everything to Myrtle. She gave her heart and soul to making those around her feel happy and loved. Her granddaughter Samantha lovingly expressed that wherever Myrtle went, she made a new friend. She was the eternal social butterfly. Myrtle will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
Special thanks to the staff at Alexander Place for their love and kindness and immense dedication to our mother's care.
The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to their favourite charity in Myrtle's name.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • My deepest condolences to all of Myrtle's family. Her father, Andrew, and my grandfather, William, were brothers and she was first cousin to my dad, Hugh. I have not seen or heard about Myrtle for many years but I have fond memories of her from my childhood and teens when the McKnight family would get together for a wedding, shower or anniversary party. I remember her as a kind, lovely person whose smile lit up her face. Again, my deepest condolences to all of you. Most Sincerely Robin Young nee McKnight - Posted by: Robin Young nee McKnight (2nd cousin) on: Feb 18, 2021
