LEONA ELSIE YANKIE
Mom, who was born in the Bayton District west of Moosehorn, MB, on March 11, 1939, was for us, an extraordinary woman. She was not a scholar but possessed wisdom that one could not find in books. She was not a nurse but she could soften many of the hurts we collected from scraped knees to broken hearts. She was not a seamstress but her impressive output of slippers, quilts, tea towels and such would disprove that, nor was she a chef, but she could cook up a meal when she didn't, it was because she was cooking up a feast! And let's not forget her homemade bread, it was legendary!
Mom was the Matriarch of our family but always prioritized our needs over her own. It was when the tears were dry, the bellies full, fears vanquished and the smiles returned, that she took the opportunity to tend to her flower beds, garden and other hobbies like ceramics that she enjoyed through the years.
Mom was many things to many people a cook, a friend, an aunt, a healer, a cousin, a sister and a wife. But she was first and always our Mom, and we could not love her more for that.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children; son Rodney; daughters and sons-in-law, Iris (Darrell) Grant, Gwen (Randy) Broustal and Annette (Tony) Usipiuk; her grandchildren, Daniel (Christine), Damien, Samantha (Richard), Shara-Lyn, Nikita (Paul), Tamara (Colin), Noah, Teffra, Steven, Nicole (Glen), Belinda (Carey); and her greatgrandchildren, Scotia, Jewel, Alexis, Sikorah, Damien, Carson and Tobias, Gabriel, Roonie, and Liam; as well as her sister Helen Jaehrlich; and sister-in-law Beverly Gall.
Besides Dad, she will be greeted by her parents Robert and Elsie Gall; her sisters and brothers-in-law: Hilda (Walter) Bittner, Hertha (Russell) Campbell; brothers, Harold (in infancy), Arnold, Herman and Reinhold (Roy); and brother-in-law Wilhelm (Bill) Jaehrlich.
This journey she has undertaken is at the same time sad and joyous for us sad that we no longer have her presence to comfort us, but happy because she is with Dad in the Lords domain where there is no pain, where she can walk and see - free from mortal frailties. Our desire and wish at this time is not to say "Good-Bye" but perhaps "Bon Voyage" would be more apt. We will always love and miss you, Mom, and we truly wish you and Dad eternal happiness.
There will be a private interment at a future date.
In lieu of flowers or donations, find those who are near and dear to you give them a hug and let them know they're important to you. Mom would have liked that.
In our hearts we'll see you.
In our hearts we'll hear you.
In our hearts we'll keep you.
