MATT JONSSON
August 1, 1996 - February 20, 2021
Matt is lovingly remembered by his mother Tish, brother Cole (Chloe), father Brad, grandmother Joanne, Uncle Rudy, Auntie Debbie, cousins, Alanna and Shelby, Auntie Christine, cousins, Connor and Robyn, Uncle Dan (Kristin), Uncle Greg (Irelis) and cousin Jack, Auntie Sharon and cousin Cam. Matt was predeceased by his Oma (Netty), Opa (Felix), Grandfather (Jack), and his cousin Shae.
Matt will be remembered for his beautiful smile and his laughter that could fill a room. Everyone who had the privilege of meeting Matt knew him for his huge heart and generosity. When Matt was only 14 years old, he was standing in the living room in his boxers and he saw something mysterious rolling down the street. He ran out to get it and found that it was a hundred dollar bill! Tish and Oma tried to convince him to put it in the bank, but Matt had a different plan... He went to the skatepark and bought everyone there pizza and drinks. When Tish asked him why he spent the money, he said, "Mom, it was free money and I wanted to share with everyone." Matt spread kindness wherever he went, and the light that he brought into the world will forever remain.
One of Matt's favourite places in the world was the cabin at Wanasing Beach. In the summer months he spent most of his time at the cabin cruising in the boat, crushing 'danger cans' and taking midnight walks to the sand cliffs with his friends and family. Matt loved to play basketball and was known for his talent, dedication and teamwork. After graduating, Matt passed on his love for basketball by helping coach at his former high school, Sturgeon Heights Collegiate. Matt was also an accomplished BMX rider and spent most of his summer days and nights at Skate Park West and Komenda with his friends.
Growing up and throughout his life, Matt had a very close group of friends that were family to him. We want to thank them for all their support for Tish and Cole through these past weeks. We know the entire community is feeling the loss of Matt's beautiful spirit.
Matt's family is working with Sturgeon Heights Collegiate and the Winnipeg Foundation to find a way to honour Matt's life. This includes the possibility of providing funding for kids who cannot afford to play basketball, and a memorial bench at SkatePark West for parents to be able to watch their kids ride at the park.
There will be no funeral at this time, due to Covid. We are planning a Celebration of Life at a later date.
Matt, you will forever be in our hearts.

Tish and Cole, my heart is broken for you. Matt was such a lovely soul and his constant smile I will never forget even as a little boy that smile was always there. I saw the boys regularly while they grew up visiting Netty. I made sure once or twice a year I would take Netty and the 4 grand children and my daughter Halie on an outing to be together and have fun. Whether it was bowling, roller skating or coming to my acreage for a swim and visit with the horses and all the other pets. I loved watching how the kids enjoyed themselves. The memories I will never forget. Please take care of yourselves and you are constantly in my heart. I love you 3 very much.❤️ - Posted by: Yvonne Vernaus (Cousin) on: Feb 27, 2021
