It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Kevin James Love, who left us peacefully on February 27, 2021, at 57 years young. While in hospital for other medical issues, Kevin contracted COVID-19 and simply did not have the strength to fight it.
The youngest of five, Kevin was born in Regina in October 1963. In 1972, the family moved to Winnipeg and settled on Campbell Street in River Heights. In 1976, the family moved to St. Vital and this marks the beginning of so many stories and the wonderful friendships that spanned decades. Kevin attended Glen Lawn Collegiate and later University of Manitoba where he enjoyed Economics and Psychology and also happily arguing about politics or current affairs.
Following school, "Doctor Love" put his outgoing personality to good use in the hospitality industry. Many will remember his entertaining antics as a bartender at the Bombay Bicycle Club, and other locations around the city. Kevin was a quick study and had a few different career paths, but it was his time in the restaurant biz that he loved the most. Being around people and listening to music brought him so much happiness and he presided over countless epic "shakers" at Kingston Row, Morley, Warsaw and Balfour.
Everywhere he went, Kevin made new friends. People were drawn to his exuberance and zest for life but became long term friends because of his compassion and generosity. His knapsack always included balloons and bubble wands, in case the opportunity arose to put a smile on someone's face with a balloon animal or a stream of bubbles. And a frisbee, for a little midnight frizz, of course.
Kevin was predeceased by his parents, Don and Myrna Love. Left to mourn him are his sons, Ryan and Ben; his siblings, Laura (Jim), Mike (Lori), Shawn (Donalda) and Tim; his always friend Carolyn; his aunts and uncle, Nancy Hipperson and Mike and Jean Love; his nephews and nieces, Curtis, Scott, Monique and Janna, numerous great-nephews and nieces, cousins and friends, and his lifelong best friend, Dave Konefall.
A private family gathering will happen at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined.
We invite you to share your happy memories of him on his tribute page at and to remember him at his very best, as we do. Kevin was one of a kind and we will miss him dearly.

Condolences & Memories (11 entries)

  • Many sleepless nights sleeping over in front of the fireplace. My mom called us "the gruesome twosum". I was with him when his beloved Apollo died. His big brother just loved giving us Charlie horses till we cried. He was a big part of my childhood memories. God Speed Kevin. The world is a less interesting place without you. I'll miss you buddy. - Posted by: Dave Mennell (childhood best freinds) on: Apr 18, 2021

  • Kevin was the life of our neighbourhood. Although it took about 4-years before meeting him and Ben, it was a day that remains fond in my memory. From that day on he was a true and loyal friend. Loyalty was engraved in his DNA and Kevin lived by it! Kevin and Ben were always a pleasure to have around, as the conversations became debates and a battle of wit. Kevin displayed inspirational qualities as a father and those of a man with wisdom and experience. I'll speak freely, as he would have, in expressing a loss for words while reflecting on some of his favorite artists Mark Knofler and One Republic. Cheers Dr. Love! It'll never be the same without you! Your Lyndale Connection!! There will be a tribute in your honour to celebrate to joy you brought all! Until next time Sir Kevin! - Posted by: Garrett (Friend / Neighbour) on: Mar 10, 2021

  • Kevin was a neighbour of ours on Warsaw. Not just a neighbour, but a great neighbour. He was the first to welcome us to neighborhood, about 5 minutes after we moved in. He was always cheerful and had good stories. Our dog would jump over 2 fences to hang out with his dogs and he’d say “just leave her, they’re having fun” He knew fun! Tim, I know how close you were with Kevin and our condolences go out to you and your family. From Mark and Lisa (from Seine River Cafe) - Posted by: Lisa and Mark Adamus (Neighbour) on: Mar 06, 2021

  • I am so sorry to hear about Kevin. I knew him thru your Dad at Holt Renfrew. Kevin always had a smile on his face and whenever he appeared your Dad would drop everything to make time to be with him. My condolences to you all. H - Posted by: Heather Cameron Scott (Friend) on: Mar 06, 2021

  • I knew Kevin briefly in Glenlawn Collegiate, but it was our time working together at the Westin Hotel that solidified my knowledge of Kevin as life of the party even in a work setting. Condolences to family and friends. - Posted by: Dana Hangle (nee Steer) (Friend) on: Mar 06, 2021

  • I knew Kevin for a long time. He should have been in the movie Cocktail not Tom Cruise! I send this to my brothers and sisters in the Love family. You have helped me so much and I am "family". My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Laura, Tim and Mike (that's all I know) remember the good times. Kevin is in a better place. Mom and Dad have a place for him in heaven and will "tune him up". Peace to us all. - Posted by: Thomas Beggs (friend) on: Mar 06, 2021
