Dawn was born in Edmonton, Alberta, on July 28, 1959, to mother and father Ross and Irene Grist; siblings, Ron, Martyn and Wanda. Though Dawn was born in Edmonton, her family moved several times in her younger years. She lived in Greenwood, Nova Scotia, Borden, Manitoba, and then finally ended up in Winnipeg in the late 1970s. She met her husband Dennis in 1980, and after marriage, they had three children.
She started work at Great-West Life and Fillmore Riley early on, and later moved to The Northwest Company, where she worked diligently and passionately managing her team until she got diagnosed with brain cancer in March of 2019.
Dawn was heavily invested in her children's activities and loved to participate in volunteering, fundraising, and attending baton functions. She also loved her pets very much and enjoyed taking the dogs, Clover, Blossom, Bear, and Toby on walks during her weekend trips to her cottage in Victoria Beach in the summertime.
Dawn was a selfless person who put her heart and soul into everything she did. She touched many hearts and was truly a mom to everyone.
Interment will be held on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery, 455 Lagimodière Blvd. Due to COVID, a private family interment will take place.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the nurses and the staff at the Grace Hospice who took care of Dawn. Thank you to nurse Janine, Rachel, Welma, Traci, Nichole, Colette, Erin, and Nancy. Thank you to health care aides, Harlan, Melody, Sylvia, Angie, Jim, and Fiona. Condolences & Memories (9 entries)
It is with such sadness that I send these condolences to the Kamfoley family! Dawn truly was a treasure and her passing is such a great loss. Although we didn't see each other often as of late, memories of our time spent together as Baton Mom's, Lunch Monitor Mom's and just friends brings a smile to my face. Her kindness, generosity and fierce love for her family and everything she got involved with was inspirational. She certainly had a way of getting everyone involved, no matter what project she was working on. She always impressed me with her organizational skills and taught me many things that I was able to use and still do to this day. We will all miss her smiling face, sense of humour and laughter. God has himself a Beautiful Angel, RIP my friend - Posted by: Paulette Kusano (friend) on: Mar 11, 2021
So sorry to hear of Dawn's passing. I enjoyed working with her at North West Company and enjoyed hearing her tell stories of what her daughters were up to. I had been so surprised to hear that she was ill with cancer when I hadn't noticed her at work for awhile. Dawn, your thoughts were with me on many occasions. Wishing you the peace that you deserve through these hard times. Julie Vogelsang - Posted by: Julie Vogelsang (coworker) on: Mar 11, 2021
The world lost a beautiful soul when Dawn Kamfoley’s fight with cancer came to an end. Dawn and I met through the sport of baton twirling, and I will always remember that first conversation we had together in the stands as baton Moms many years ago. Dawn always had a smile and a kind word regardless of which club you were from. Over the years we shared many experiences as Baton Moms, board members, and friends. She became a second Mom to Jenny.....her “Um” ❤️. We traveled together to take the girls to out of town clinics and competitions, and spent many a day at the tabulation table together. I am honoured to have called her my friend. My heart breaks for Dennis, Kayla, Kendra and Kristen. You were her light and her life. Holding her in my heart.💓 - Posted by: Edie Parisian (Friend ) on: Mar 08, 2021

I hope that you will lean on each other during this tragic time. You are in my heart and mind. - Posted by: Roger Herman (Friend) on: Mar 07, 2021

So very sad to hear of Dawn's passing and deepest condolences to the family. Dawn hired me to work at The North West Company and I will always appreciate that fact that she took me on. I had much respect for her and valued her kind and generous nature. She was a hard working woman who never backed down from a challenge, and taught me many things over the years. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. - Posted by: Audrey Reimer (coworker) on: Mar 06, 2021
My best memory I will have will be the first holiday they took me on which Cuba scars will be with me always and the Gecko laughs will live on as well. 💖💖 - Posted by: Phyllis (Sister In Law ) on: Mar 06, 2021
