MING-QUEN SHUM
January 1, 1929 - March 4, 2021

With family by his side, Ming passed away peacefully on March 4, 2021 at age 92.
Ming was born in 1929 in Guangzhou, China, and moved to Hong Kong in 1956 where he established his family and a business in plastics bag extrusion machinery. The family immigrated to Winnipeg where Ming established Allied Pioneer Ltd. (plastics bags producer and distributor) in 1974; Ming's Emporium (household gifts and decorations) in 1996. Ming retired in 2015.
Ming is survived by his wife, Luzie (Shuk-Wah); his children, Peter (Linda), Philip (Eunice), Margaret, David (Joanne), Bill (Joanne), Mary (ex-husband Patrick); grandchildren, Michael (Nika), Christina (Desmond); Leighton; Andrew, Jennifer; Caitlyn; Kevin, Samantha, and Lindsay Wu; great-granddaughters, Mackenzie and Audrey; and treasured brothers, in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
The family is grateful for the care provided by Ming's family doctor, Dr. Casey Woo; Homecare Services especially Ana and Suhua; and the staff both in Emergency and Medical Intensive Care Unit. Special thanks to nurses, Jacqueline, Chelsea, and Wendy in Medical Intensive Care Unit. Your kindness and compassion to our family during our extended Zoom video with Ming is greatly appreciated.
A private burial took place on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at Brookside Cemetery.
