BETTY (ELIZABETH-ANNE) TURNBULL
October 15, 1936 - March 6, 2021
Mum joins our dad John, their infant daughter Susan, her parents, Eva and Sigurd Dahl, in-laws, John and Dorothy Turnbull, cousins, Marie and Sam Fabro and Vic Patkau. She will be dearly missed by her son David (Jackie), daughter Nancy (Ralph), cousin Lenore and family, and her close friends, Ruth and Joanne.
Betty grew up in Elmwood, went to Lord Selkirk School and became a nurse in 1957, graduating from The Grace. She married John in 1959 and raised their family in East Kildonan. Betty returned to nursing in 1976 and worked part-time for VON for over 20 years. Betty enjoyed entertaining, hosting and organizing events. Throughout her life, she dedicated much time to volunteering for various charities and organizations, including the Middlechurch Auxiliary, the St. Agnes Guild and Children's Hospital Book Market.
Betty truly had a full and wonderful life! She was very social and enjoyed her friendships through curling, ladies and mixed bridge clubs and sorority-Beta Sigma Phi. She especially enjoyed her summers at Falcon Lake and winter getaways to Palm Springs, California. She also loved to travel and went on many wonderful trips around the world.
Betty was blessed with many close friendships which she cherished deeply. We are forever grateful to Ruth, Joanne and Isobel for their continued visits and kindness over the past couple of years. We would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff on the 3rd floor at Beacon Hill Lodge for the excellent care and compassion given to our Mum over the past five years.
We are grateful for having such a wonderful Mum who supported and encouraged us throughout our lives. We take comfort in knowing Mum is now at peace and will be reunited with her loved ones, including her beloved companions Holly, Angelina, Tia and Shawney, whom she loved dearly.
Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty's memory to Before the Bridge Senior K9 Rescue, a charity close to her heart.
A Butterfly lights beside us like a sunbeam
And for a brief moment, it's glory and beauty
Belong to our world
But then it flies on again,
and although we wish
It could have stayed,
We feel so lucky to have seen it...

Condolences to the family. I worked at the VON with Betty. She was a great lady and we shared some pretty great times together at work, some stressful moments at work back then, but always lots of laughter. I am blessed to have shared time with her. May she rest in peace. - Posted by: Tara (Former Co-worker) on: Mar 17, 2021

David and Nancy, I remember your Mother as a kind and giving person. She knew all the Turnbull and Turnbull staff, and their family members, by name. That is a tribute to the way she cared about people. Whenever I saw her she was impeccably dressed and always had a smile. She was a strong woman with a large heart. My sincere condolences to you and your families. - Posted by: Julie Ominski (Employee of Turnbull and Turnbull) on: Mar 13, 2021
