DOUGLAS WILLIAM SMITH
February 19, 1943 - March 7, 2021
Doug was predeceased by his parents, Bob and Maisie Smith, his brother Lloyd, and his brothers-in-law, Glen and Bob Brooks. He is survived by his wife Lynne, sons, Bobby and Michael (Jeni), his granddaughters, Alexis and Courtney, his brother Don (Joan), his brother-in-law Ron Brooks (Annette), and sisters-in-law, Christine and Deirdre, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Doug left high school to begin work in the printing industry. He spent 34 years employed with Display Industries/Screen Print. He and his wife Lynne then bought "Quick Filter Wash" which they ran together until 2002. Not wanting to retire yet he went to work in the automotive industry working for his brother Don's company, "United Sales Associates" until 2007. Doug and Lynne then enjoyed many years of retirement until Doug's health began to fail and he was moved to Park Manor. Doug contracted Covid-19 which he recovered from but his health continued to deteriorate after that.
Doug grew up in Elmwood and participated in many sports. He was a skilled hockey player and eventually played his Junior Hockey with the Winnipeg Monarchs. He was also a competitive baseball player and in 2008 was inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame as a member of the Elmwood Giants Juniors (1957 to 1961).
Special thanks to all the staff at Park Manor as their care for Doug was exceptional.
As per Doug's wishes cremation has taken place. A service will not be conducted at this time due to the Covid-19 restrictions that are in place.

So sad to hear about Dougie. Such a great person, he led a full and active life with a wonderful family. I played hockey for many years with Dougie and Donnie in Transcona for Frank's team (Dal's, Centurions). Even the old-timers continued to learn from Doug with every shift. And when Doug, Don, Chuck and Ernie played together it was watching a magic show! Sure miss those days and we'll all sure miss Doug. My most sincere condolences to the family, Dave Coffell - Posted by: David Coffell (friend and teammate) on: Mar 13, 2021
