BENZIE: Ellen (Ella) Benzie, widow of Ross Benzie, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at Virden Hospital with family at her side. The staff at Virden Hospital and Reston Care Home all commented how they enjoyed her independent and feisty spirit. Many people remember Ella as "the lady with the little blue truck". That truck was instrumental in her independence for the maintenance of her home and huge yard. Begrudingly Ella had to step back a bit in the last few years and allow Ken Moore, whom she called her second son, to assist her. Ella was a devoted member of the United Church and enjoyed being part of the choir for many years. LaLa was quick to jump in the car when James, Mason or Cole were involved in a sporting event. Ella always looked forward to the coffee afternoons with the "girls". Ella was predeceased by her parents, Andrew and Agnes Cochrane, son in law Gilbert Lobreau, siblings Anna, Margaret, Calvin, Isabell, Phyllis, and Gordon. Ella will be mourned by her children Janis, Lloyd (Cal), grandson James (Loren) Mason and Cole, sister Myrle McIntosh, and sister-in-law Phyllis Cochrane, in-laws Don and Doreen Benzie, many neices nephews and friends. A private service will be held at a later date. Donations may be made in Ella's memory to the Reston United Church Memorial Fund or charity of choice.
