PERRY JACK MCDONALD

It is with saddened hearts that we announce: Perry McDonald passed away peacefully at the age of 68 on March 5, 2021.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie; children, Laurel Gaspar (Paul), Grant McDonald (Klaudia), Kiersten McDonald (Andrew); and two grandchildren, Mackenzie and Lala. He is also survived by his brother Murray (Rose), his sister Donna Jones (Brian) and their children, as well as a large extended family who will miss him.
He was predeceased by his son Garreth; his parents, Charlie and Betty; his sister Laurie and his brother-in-law Barry McArton.
Perry will be remembered for his sense of humour, his quiet strength and his love of winning chess and cribbage games (both sanctioned and unsanctioned).
Perry's family was everything to him. There was never a game, practice, play or event that Perry missed - a time-consuming endeavour as the father of four active children. He took every opportunity to tell his family how much he loved them and how proud he was of them.
Perry was generous with his kindness, love and, for any four-legged friend, treats. He could be counted on to sneak generous amounts of treats to the dogs in the family who all seemed a bit more round after a visit with him.
Perry cared for his community and volunteered his time in many ways including in his children's activities and in local politics where he was involved at the executive level and on numerous campaigns.
Perry was passionate about his career in land development and the importance of creating beautiful communities for future generations.
Perry was a charming optimist. He addressed every challenge with a smile on his face and with a joke to tell at the ready. Despite his many health challenges, Perry assured anyone who asked that he was "Great!" and " Fine!" and then would ask how they were doing. Perry saw happiness and joy in everything, every day.
We take great comfort in knowing that Perry is now with his eldest son Garreth.
A service will be held at a later date when we can all gather.
Instead of flowers, please consider donating to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.

  • We are so sorry to hear about Perry's passing. I just found out about it. He helped us with our purchase of our home in Meadowbrook Sanford. He was very helpful and made the whole experience a very pleasant one. He was always so upbeat and cheerful. May he Rest In Peace. - Posted by: Eugene Baraniuk (friend) on: Apr 15, 2021

  • There are certain events in life that make you stop and take stock of your life, this is most definitely one of them. Since I heard about Perry's passing I have thought often about our lives (Perry's and mine) and our friendship over the past fifty years or so. Boy there is something Perry and I would have laughed about that we could say something like "remember fifty years ago when...". But I do remember and appreciate the type of relationship we had, one that allowed us to not see each other for a period of time and just pick up a conversation where we left off the last time. I think about us as teenagers going to Grand Beach with no planning, no tent and no supplies, but having the time of our lives. I think about us being in each other's wedding parties, about laughing so hard our sides would ache. I even remember the rare occasions when we would share how we felt about things, big things. I will never forget our last conversation. We will continue to pray for peace for Bonnie and the kids and those much anticipated and loved, grandkids. Good bye my friend. • We were so saddened to hear of Perry’s passing on March 5. We have so many shared memories of our kids growing up in River West Park. Most famous are the best Cub Leaders ever - Baloo and Baghera. They signed up as volunteers to occasionally drive, and ended up as Leaders with Jennifer. Their experiences had us (the spouses) all in stitches, and their stories will go down in infamy. Just typing this brings smiles to our faces. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Bonnie, Grant, Laurel and Kiersten. Perry and Garreth are in our hearts, and part of our shared history. - Posted by: Craig and Cindy Gilmour (Friends and Neighbours) on: Mar 20, 2021
