With her family by her side, Lynda Marilyn Clarke, formerly of Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away from cancer in Calgary, Alberta on Thursday, March 18, 2021.
She was born on June 6, 1943, and is survived by her children, Andrew, Don, Michael and Samantha; and her grandchildren, Sabrina, David, Cole, Abigail, Alex, Christian, and Lilly.
Lynda was an Elder and member of Norway House Cree Nation and a graduate of the University of Toronto and Saint Mary's University. She was a remarkable student, a passionate medical social worker and educator who had over 40 years of work experience in the social, medical, and education fields.
During her career, she worked at many First Nations communities in Manitoba and Alberta. She was a founder of New Beginnings Consulting in Alberta, which provided mental health therapy, counselling, and support services to the First Nations in the Lesser Slave Lake region.
After retiring in 2007, she remained in the memory of the many people she helped and stood for. Lynda was well known for challenging the system's injustices and for fighting for those who needed her the most.
Early in her adult life, Lynda was a vibrant artist and businesswoman who supported her family by selling sea sculptures to Nova Scotia's tourists at Peggy's Cove. She used to love dancing, singing and Atlantic lobster (not rock lobster) with a glass of white wine.
Her family loved her and will remember that in many ways, she determined the way that they are, by the way she was and confronted life.
Arrangements by Choice Memorial Cremation and Funeral Service of Calgary, Alberta. Please check their website ( for when the virtual service will be held.
