September 11, 1938 - March 18, 2021

It is with profound sadness, the family announces the passing of our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather whose kindness, gentleness and wisdom will be forever cherished. Losing him has left a big hole in our hearts and lives.
Del is survived by his loving wife, Gloria, of 58 years, his beloved children, Mark (Linda Markus), Russ (Shannon) Laura-Jean Mardell (Jim); his grandchildren, Tyler (Sherrie), Brayden (Kalissa Weenusk), Alyssa Mardell (Allan Levesque), Amanda Mardell (Landon Wilson), Nate, Kayleigh; and his great-grandchildren, Tayliea, Liam and Ophelia.
Del was born in Sudbury, Ontario, to Norman and Eva Anderson. He and Gloria moved to Thompson, MB in 1963 where they raised their family. He was employed by INCO for 30 years, then retired to Winnipeg.
Del is survived by brothers, Norm and Darwin, and sister JoAnne Coyne. He was predeceased by his brother Bill.
Del loved all types of music; the lists of artists and genres is long. Sports was his passion, especially hockey, and football. He always would have time for a spirited debate on politics. He was a member of the RehFit for more than 26 years.
The family would like to thank all his friends, acquaintances and neighbours who supported Del and Gloria with so many caring and loving messages since his diagnosis in July. Being separated from his family and the isolation because of Covid-19 added an extra burden of heart wrenching sadness to his already difficult journey.
Del wanted his obituary to be brief and to the point. In addition, he lived a simple, private life and would wish that these words reflect that, no flowery phrases or long exaggerated prose. His was a life well lived with laughter lines, shared love, treasured memories, and no regrets. That is his legacy to those who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in Del's memory to Prostate Cancer Canada would be appreciated.
A celebration of Del's life will take place at a later date.

  • Condolences to Gloria and family. Plus thirty years of working for and with Del showed me that good guys can win. In all that time I never once felt that anyone was not treated fairly. Del with his good humor and quick quips meant that conversations were never boring. He also led significant changes in the mines over the decades. It was always fun. His robin's egg blue truck was coveted by many.......mostly because it was so clean......always. At work and in life it was simply a pleasure. Good travels old friend.
