CARLA SCHNITZLER HALL

Carla Schnitzler Hall passed away in Ottawa on March 17, 2021, at the age of 59.
Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, before moving to Ottawa. After obtaining her B.Ed and Master's from Carleton University, she taught ESL for 26 years at the University of Ottawa. She and Russell Hall enjoyed 37 years of marriage together, happily raising sons, Erik and James in Chelsea, QC. She was immensely proud of her sons who contribute to the world as honest, caring young men.
Carla was predeceased by father Heinz Schnitzler and younger sister Corinne, as well as stepfather Bernard Miller. Carla leaves behind the three men who loved her the most: husband Russ and sons, Erik (Kaitlyn) and James (Kayla). One-year-old grandson Henry James brought her immeasurable joy. She also leaves behind her adored mother Frances Miller, loving sister Charlotte Cels (Tom), dear in-laws, Janis (Gaetan) and Georgia (Richard), as well as many treasured nieces and nephews. Carla was particularly grateful for her many wonderful friends who saw her through thick and thin, some of whom had been in her life since she was three years old.
Carla delighted in dance performances, particularly ballet, and also previously taught aerobics. She loved being outside, whether tending to her garden, walking in nature or spending time at the cottage at Blue Sea Lake. She also enjoyed handicrafts and was a highly skilled knitter. As an animal lover, she also adored the family cats.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Some people’s lives do not need a lot of praise, they speak for themselves. Miss Carla was one of those. She had the ability to make an impact on your life just with her candor and her human warmth. She was my ESL teacher during my studies at the University of Ottawa. I had the privilege to interview her for one of my class projects. We had a great conversation, talking about her hobbies, her two boys, and why she decided to pursue a career in education instead after graduating from a bachelor in political science. Yesterday, May 10, 2023, while doing a random online search to see if she was still teaching at the University, I found out she passed away 2 years ago. I am saddened, shattered, heartbroken (…) I was planning to send her a message to thank her for what she taught me during my studies at the university and to let her know that she was right when she told me that I would go far within the Canadian public service. She loved teaching. I am sure she had a couple of more projects to work on. Words cannot express how I truly feel. Naively, I blame her passing on the unfairness of life for allowing this to happen. She simply didn’t deserve to die at just 59. I am confident the Good God has reserved a place for her in Heaven. I send my deepest sympathies and condolences to her husband and her two sons. May your soul rest quietly in Heaven Miss Carla ! - Posted by: Robertho Day Isaac (Former student) on: May 11, 2023

  • Hi Russ, Erik and James, So shocked to find out that our dear friend Carla has passed away at such a young age. Our sincere condolences to you all. While we moved apart probably 20 years ago as we left Juniper Road, we have the fondest memories of the wonderful times we had together, the last of which may have been New Years Eve during Y2K. May all the happy memories carry you through the difficult times. All our love. Lill, Micheal, Breonna and Madeline. - Posted by: Lill and Micheal Burnatowski (Old friends ) on: Apr 18, 2023
