MARLENE WALKER
(nee DAROWANY)
October 12, 1945 - March 29, 2021

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Marlene Joanne Walker, at the age of 75. Marlene was a caring wife, mother and grandmother, who courageously battled cancer until she was called home to watch over us.
As an only child, Marlene always valued family as the foundation of happiness. We will all miss her terribly, friends and family alike.
Marlene is survived by her husband and best friend of over 50 years, Bryan, as well as their four children: Karyn (Darren), Kathryn, Kerry, and Kurt (Jenny). Left to cherish their memories of Grandma are: Kristyn, Colin, Madison, Kayla, Chloe, Zachary, and Jon. "Queenie" greatly misses her puppy mom. Marlene was predeceased by her loving parents, Joe and Anne Darowany.
Marlene loved spending time in the kitchen, and was known for her amazing cooking, and passion for baking memorable delights. She was a creative soul who was talented in culinary and visual arts. Marlene amassed a beautiful collection of her handmade macramé and needlepoint pieces, which she shared with friends and family over the years. She loved to read, create and share her memories of travels she so immensely enjoyed with her husband, Bryan. Most recently, Mom and Dad enjoyed a Caribbean cruise and were able to enjoy numerous travel destinations over the past few years. Their travelled roads together provided much joy through their journeys in life. Marlene was a proud grandmother and was always the number one fan of each of her grandchildren. She always was there for every dance recital, sporting game and special moments of her grandchildren's lives. Her grandchildren were the light of her life and she cherished every moment of time spent with the grandchildren.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the wonderful medical staff at CancerCare who took such good care of Marlene throughout her battle with Cancer. A special thank you to Dr. Pamela Skrabek at CancerCare, for her kindness and compassion. We also wish a warm thank you to Reverend Peter Chorney for his blessings and words of comfort bestowed on Marlene in her final days.

Life is but a stopping place,
a pause in what's to be,
a resting place along the road,
to sweet eternity.
We all have different journeys,
different paths along the way,
we all were meant to learn some things,
but never meant to stay.

Due to restrictions, a private service will be held at Klassen Funeral Home with interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery.
Flowers are gratefully declined. If so desired, a donation in Marlene's memory can be made to CancerCare Manitoba.

Rest in peace dear wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. God has you in
his keeping. We have you in our hearts.
Vichnaya Pamyat.

  • So sorry for your loss💞 she was an amazing person! - Posted by: Sally Johnson (Friend) on: Apr 05, 2021

  • My first memory of Marlene is the picture of her holding me above a pumpkin grown at one of the Darowany farms. I was four months old. Through my lifetime, Marlene was there to look after Darryl, Susan and I. My mother Eileen lived with Marlene as she completed high school. A that point she said after looking after us she was sure that she wanted children. She was kind. Marlene made sure Susan had a Birthday Cake as my mother was not able to. After a time of child care, she went back to work at Greater Winnipeg Gas Company. After some time, Marlene had four children. She kept in touch. Thank you for the decades of thoughtfulness, care and friendship and odd shot of Crown Royal. God Speed. • Heartfelt condolences to Bryan and his family. I enjoyed meeting with you and Marlene, she was a great lady. There was a twinkle in her eyes when she talked about her family. Losing touch with people happens but the memories are always there. - Posted by: Gloria ivory (Friend) on: Apr 03, 2021
