LUCIE LORRAINE MARIE LAVERGNE

We are sad to announce the passing of our Sister, Aunt, Partner and Friend. Lucie passed away at the age of 60 years on February 3, 2021.
She was predeceased by her parents, Lorraine and Roland Lavergne; sister Claire (Michel) Dumas; brothers-in-law, Robert Miyata (Christine), Daniel Labossiere (Georgette) and Luc Jegues (Monique).
Lucie is lovingly remembered by her partner Shaun Martin and stepdaughter Hope, siblings, Richard (Heather), Marie (Pierre) Fortier, Georgette Labossiere, Maurice (Noelie), Pete (Olga), Gerry (Shelley), Marc (Blanche), Monique Jegues, Debbie (Fred) Miller, Jean (Georgina), Gisele (Eugene) Rohatynsky and Christine Miyata; numerous nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews.
Lucie had many friends outside of the family, some we knew and many we did not. She was amazing and made friends everywhere she went. As a young girl, Lucie's hair was quite stunning, long curls with plenty of red highlights that her mother could not resist to doll up even while Lucie kicked and screamed. Growing up in large families has the advantage of utilizing each family member's strengths in daily life. All kids come with their own personalities and skills. While Lucie was quiet, kind and caring, she was also bold and independent, which gave her a unique position in the family. She was always there to assist others in any way she could. I think a few sisters greatly appreciated this assistance throughout university. Pulling from everyone's skills can make family life more enjoyable and fulfilling; Lucie understood this well. Lucie dedicated a large portion of her young adult life to supporting both her ailing parents. She travelled over an hour each way to and from work. She spent many years at both the Government of Canada as well as the Province of Manitoba. She was very proud of her accomplishments during her tenure in the Civil Service. Later in life she went on a journey that had her relocate to both Alberta and Ontario before returning back home to Winnipeg. Shortly after returning, Lucie suffered a stroke and spent many months in recovery. It was while in recovery that she met the love of her life, Shaun Martin. Lucie was whole now and spent several wonderful years with Shaun and her stepdaughter Hope. Unfortunately, Lucie's health battles were not over yet. She faced many medical challenges and spent long periods in the hospital. During her long recovery battle, all she wanted was to be back at home with her loved ones. After much hard work, Lucie achieved this milestone but unfortunately, only four short months before passing. She will be lovingly missed by all.
The family would like to thank the staff at Health Sciences Centre MICU for their care, humanity, and respect.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial will be planned for a later date.

Family Tributes

Life's challenges brought us together. We had each other's back and we had each other's heart. I will miss you every day. Je t'aime mon amour.
Lucie was a voracious reader of romance novels, immediately hooked by the cover of a book. This love of reading gifted her with creative writing skills that she shared with her family members by writing numerous resumes and an essay or two!
Lucie loved meeting new people, sharing stories and making family connections. She was proud of her French heritage.
Our sister Lucie always gave of herself unconditionally. We will miss her dearly and she will forever be in our hearts.
I will always remember my Tante Lucie
Lucie touched all of our lives in many different ways. We will remember her fondly in the way she made us laugh.
Her unconditional love will leave an imprint on all those who were lucky enough to have experienced it.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

- Posted by: Denise Paillé-Jones (School friend) on: Apr 11, 2021

  • Sincere sympathies to Shaun & the Lavergne family. We keep you in our thoughts and prayers. - Posted by: Claudette B. Moquin & Harm Bouwman (Shaun's parents) on: Apr 10, 2021

- Posted by: Marie-Christine Dauriac (Friend from high school) on: Apr 10, 2021
