It was with great sadness that we had announced the passing of Janet on April 13, 2020 at the age of 102 and 14 days. She was born, on the home farm in the Municipality of Silver Creek, March 30, 1918, the 4th child in the family of 6 to George McLeod and Margaret Jane Dunn. She married James Angus March 29, 1946. They moved to Chater in May 1948. She was the Post Mistress in Chater from 1953 until its closing in 1969. She was an active member in all community events, UCW, Baby Band. A lifetime member of the United Church and of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxilary Branch No. 3, holding the office of Sgt.-at-Arms for several years. Janet and Jim loved to travel and made several trips during their years together. Family was important and trips were made to keep in touch. Upon retirement, they spent their winters in Magic Valley Park in Weslaco, Texas and summer at Silver Beach. They made many friendship that continued until her death. She was the paper lady, delivering everyone's newspaper, during her 100 miles plus walks each winter. She took up painting and became very competent. She did yoga and was the envy for her fellow classmates. She loved pool and always took part in the water exercises. She loved her trips to Mexico and the yearly Christmas Day parade and the giving out food and presents to the Mexican children. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings, her daughter, Shirley Cameron (May 19, 1987) and husband Jim (May 9, 1991). She continued her trips to Texas. Summers were spent at the lake. On the last day of school, she picked up her grandsons and the cabin became the gathering place for movies and fun for all the boys and their friends. She is survived by daughter Jane, husband Keith Wood; grandsons James (Pam), John (Stephanie) and Jess (Jessica); great-grandchildren Ian, Tom, Tristan, William and Violet and her adopted grandson Brent Battersby and family and many nieces and nephews who are located across Canada. Janet spent her last few years at Country Meadows. She stated that everyone was so good to her and we thank them for their compassion and care for allowing me to be with her during her last few days. Due to Covid, a memorial service was held July 26, 2020 at Silver Beach and graveside service August 2, 2020 at Chater Cemetery. Anyone who is so inclined may make a donation to the Alzheimer Society in her memory.
