It is with the utmost sadness that the sudden and unexpected passing of Doreen Frances Luhtala occurred on October 23, 2020 at Misericordia Health Centre in Winnipeg, MB. Doreen, although born in Port Arthur Ontario, was a longtime resident of Winnipeg Manitoba. She was employed by Zellers for 40 years at the Polo Park and Westwood Stores and retired in 2014.
Doreen was very active in many community clubs and organizations, she was one of the first Community members of the St. James Museum Board of Directors, serving as President for many years. She was a very active volunteer during countless annual and special events and fundraisers. She was also a member and long serving President of a Winnipeg Rebecca Lodge Chapter. She devoted much of her time to the Rebecca's serving in various executive positions and attending numerous conventions. Additionally, she was a member of #4 Legion Ladies Auxilliary, serving in various positions for many years. She was also an active member of the Book Club of St. James Library and a very active and avid bingo player. Doreen was very community minded and an active volunteer.
Doreen is survived by her brother Edward (Ted) and wife Linda Luhtala, their children, Catherine and Michael with his wife Stacey, and their grandchildren, Joshua and Ayden. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Alice Luhtala of Winnipeg. She will be missed by family and friends alike.
