MARY FRANCES (FLORENCE) SALAMANDYK
(nee KACHKOWSKI)
September 18, 1940 - April 9, 2021

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Baba and Babsia.
Mom was born in Sifton, MB. She met Alex, the love of her life in Atikokan, ON, and were married May 9, 1959. They were married for 55 years, up to the time of Dad passing in 2014.
Flo is survived by her loving and devoted family. Her children: Shirley (Conrad), Dennis (Brenda), Ken (Marlene), Ted (Joyce) and Brad (Kelly); her grandchildren, Jared (Amanda), Kaitlen, Daniel (Vanessa), Ben (Caylin), Nicole (Devon) and Josh; and great- grandchildren, Gavin, Lilah and Reese; sisters, Doris (Kal) Koros, Susie Humeniuk; brother Joe (Mary Jane) Kachkowski-Ford, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her extended family, Amy (Dave), Ethan, Macy, Gordie, Kristian (Teri) and Kailan.
Mom was the matriarch of our family and a devoted Catholic woman, which was shown in everything she did throughout her life. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was always willing to lend a compassionate ear or give a warm hug when needed. If you were blessed to know her, you would have experienced her loving and generous personality first hand. Through her beautiful knitted and crocheted blankets, sweaters, slippers, doilies and Personal Care Home staff mask extenders, she shared her creativity. She also loved to create new dishes and share her recipes from her favourite cooking shows. Hosting family gatherings was one of her favourite things, with laughter and the smell of amazing meals filling her home. Mom and Dad enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and camping together. She would have a thermos of tea and a lunch ready to go to head out as soon as Dad got home from work.
She was an avid gardener. She showed off her green thumb with lush plants both inside and outside in her flower beds. Her natural talent was enjoyed and admired by many. Mom also loved sports. She was quite the arm chair coach. She enjoyed hockey, golf, baseball, curling and football. She was an avid fan of the Winnipeg Jets and never missed a game. Mom was a strong supporter of her children and grandchildren that played sports. Whether hockey or wrestling, it was rare for her to miss their games/matches. She could be seen in the bleachers cheering her heart out. Many people will remember her from when she worked at Sears in the Plaza, at Southwood Medical Centre, and from the Ukrainian Catholic Church.
Thank you to the amazing staff of the Northern Spirit Manor Personal Care Home. Your kindness, thoughtfulness, words of encouragement and friendship were greatly appreciated over the last four years. We know that she considered you as part of her family.

Mom, your beautiful smile, infectious
laughter, mischievous antics, warm and
strong embrace will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Northern Spirit Manor Personal Care Home in Thompson, MB or to a charity of your choice.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

"So now faith, hope, and love abide, these
three; but the greatest of these is love."

  • My wife, Jan, and I will dearly miss our favourite Auntie. She was always cheerful and willing to give and take in the joking department. We will have many great memories of her stay over visits at our place when frequenting Winnipeg for appointments, etc. May she have an eternal rest. - Posted by: Norm Sherman (Nephew) on: Apr 20, 2021
