WURTZ: Paul "Pauly" Wurtz, age 80, passed away in Brandon on the eve of April 14, 2021, with Annie, his adoring wife of over 54 years, and two of his daughters by his side. Paul was born on August 7, 1940, in Jamesvalley Colony near Starbuck, MB, to Paul and Katherina Wurtz. Paul was the "Henna-mensch" in Deerboine Colony for 35 years and frequently competed in the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair egg show with great success, amassing many trophies. When Paul wasn't caring for chickens or repeatedly reminding Annie to make sure she had enough gas in her vehicle, he loved talking politics, fixing gadgets, and laughing with his grandchildren. Paul also loved all things aviation and kept a radio scanner by his bedside to keep tabs on the airplanes flying overhead. Paul enjoyed reading the newspaper and was notorious for disassembling the Brandon Sun and then blaming his daughters for the mess. He especially loved reading 'the Funnies' Annie could share many stories of Paul reading the paper quietly on the couch and then suddenly erupting in a loud guffaw of laughter! Although Paul was a classic introvert, he enjoyed receiving visitors and was known for his sense of humour and teasing nature. Paul will be deeply missed by his wife, Annie, his 7 children and their loved ones, his 6 beloved grandchildren, his church family, as well as many relatives and friends whose lives he touched. While Paul's health was declining in the last years of his life, Annie devoted herself to being his constant caregiver. His family is very grateful that his struggles are now over and that he can rest peacefully. In Paul's final moments, his Annie urged him to release all cares and to follow the angels calling him home; our thoughts and love fly with him. Paul's family and close friends will gather to remember and celebrate his life on Tuesday, April 20. Due to current health restrictions, we ask that those who knew Pauly (and family) send their love and join us in spirit.
