(nee GOULET)

It is with much sadness that our family announces the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, on April 17, 2021, at the age of 95. She left us peacefully and for that we are most grateful.
She was the loving wife to Frank Rowan for 69 years, who predeceased her in 2016.
She was the beloved mother of Michael (Eveline), Patrick (Michelle), Yanita (Ron) and Anthony. Her son Philip had passed away in 2019. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren: Anita, Amélie, Patrice, Jack, Justin, and Julian, as well her great-grandchildren: Juliette, Béatrice, Russell and Ludovic.
She was born Anita Marcelle Goulet in October, 1925 in Sorel, QC. She came from a large French-Canadian family whose parents were Lucien Raphael Goulet and Germaine Crépeau. There were eight brothers and sisters in the family: Jacques, Maurice, Jean, Louise, Gertrude, Andrée and Georges. All but two siblings predeceased Mom. She is survived by sister Louise (Brossard, QC) and brother Georges (Sorel, QC).
She and Frank were married in her hometown of Sorel on May 25, 1946. They began their married life in Ottawa and from there to Montreal for many years prior to making Winnipeg their final home in 1963 where they continued to raise their five children.
Mom cherished spending time with her loved ones, entertaining family, and friends. She was a longtime volunteer for the Saint Agnes Guild. She was also involved with the Canadian Red Cross, recruiting blood donors, and taking charge of a team of volunteers. She was presented with an award for her 25 years of dedication. She had a great appreciation for the arts. She enjoyed the Winnipeg Symphony for many years. She was particularly enthusiastic about the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and joined them on tour to Beijing some 33 years ago. She had many hobbies including playing bridge, travelling, reading, and writing letters to her family and far away friends. She was an avid photographer, a talented needle worker and seasoned cook. She had a real passion for collecting art and clown decor. She was active at the Winter Club participating in badminton, bowling, and aqua fitness. She enjoyed many years of golf at the Niakwa Country Club and in Palm Springs where she and Frank wintered.
She was curious, generous, and thoughtful. We were most fortunate to have such a kind, patient, loving mother who took such good care of us our entire lives. We are left with many fond memories of her, and we were blessed to have her in our lives for so long.
We would like to extend our gratitude to the wonderful staff at the West Park Manor for their dignified and compassionate care she received while a resident there for the past year and a half.
Cremation has taken place and we will have a private family ceremony at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Canadian Red Cross.

  • I want to extend my condolences to all of you for the loss of the Matriarch of your Family. I’ve know the Rowan’s for at thirty years - first I cleaned her home, then we became good friends. Mrs. Rowan was one of the most elegant ladies I’ve known, always made up beautifully. She truly loved finding a bargain at the thrift store, especially if she found anything “clown”. I remember going to see Flamingo Dancers we all had a fantastic time, Mr. Rowan didn’t even fall asleep! Mrs. Rowan loved her children dearly and was always looking out for them, her Grandchildren were the apples of her eyes. She will be truly missed but never forgotten. Rest In Peace Mrs. R. - Posted by: Denise (Friend ) on: Apr 24, 2021

  • We have such wonderful memories of Frank and Anita over the year in the special neighbourhood of the Gates. A true end of an era. Our thoughts are with you as you celebrate Anita’s rich life. The Horbay Family - Posted by: The Horbay Family (Friend) on: Apr 24, 2021
