Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or Memory
CHARLES (VIC) HILLSDEN
1923 - 2021
His memory will be cherished by his wife of 74 years, Marybel (nee Lendrum); his children, Ruth (Arnold), Murray (Jane), and Gayle (Les); his grandchildren, Robert, Beverly (AJ), Mike (Lauren), Steve (Melissa), Chris (Ashley) and Jason; as well as great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Taylor, Avery, Olive, Theo and Remi. Vic is also survived by his sister Ruth, and his brothers, Jack and Allen (Grace).
Vic as he was best known, was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1923 and spent several years growing up in Badger, Manitoba. Then the family returned to Winnipeg. He was conscripted into the army at 19 years of age and sent overseas during the Second World War with the PPCLI.
After his return he met and married Marybel in November, 1946. They resided in Winnipeg, mostly in the St. Vital area where they raised their children. Vic spent time serving his community through church groups, Cubs and Scouts, and senior groups. He worked the majority of his years for the Norwood School Division. He enjoyed curling, fishing, outings, woodworking, playing cards and visiting Murray and family in Calgary. His family was the most important part of his life, he was always there to support, encourage, guide, hug, and love unconditionally.
The family would like to Thank Dr. T. Gwozdecki, WRHA Pallative Care Team, and the Aides from Home Care that looked after him daily.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Lighthouse Mission, charity of choice, or Pay It Forward with a gesture of compassion to others.
Due to covid restrictions, a private service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 30, 2021. You are invited to join us virtually by accessing the Livestream at www.greenacresfuneralhome.com.
