GLEN MIKKELSON
Glen was predeceased by his father, Ejnar and mother, Audrey. He will be remembered by his special friend Cheryl Ridley, his sons, Scott (Celia), Eric (Alison), Dustin, Connor and Carter, his grandchildren, Landon, Aiden, Hannah, Amelia, Elijah and Kaitlyn. Also, his brother and great friend, Keith (Mona), sisters, Gail MacPherson (Don), Diane Leitold (Rob Sproule), Inez Wadge (Larry) and Judy Grant (Jim - deceased).
Glen was born on April 18, 1952, the fifth of six children. He had a natural talent for all sports and, along with his parents and siblings, was involved in every activity that was available at Clifton Community Club.
Glen was the best dad. He had his five sons across different periods of his life, and he loved them all deeply, gave them all the time in the world, and formed a special relationship with each one of them. They grew up with their dad surrounded by sports, with him often being their coach as well as their proudest fan. Glen was never shy about the pride he had for his sons, and for good reason - he raised magnificent men.
As an accomplished athlete, Glen played for the Brandon Wheat Kings from 1970 to 1972; he produced 106 points with 44 goals and 62 assists in 67 games one season. He was drafted by the Minnesota North Stars and played professionally in the Eastern Hockey League, the International Hockey League and in Europe.
His life was in constant motion. He worked in sales and advertising, both colleagues and clients from throughout his career were friends of his. He also ran his own construction business, which was his true passion. He enjoyed working with tools and spending time with his sons and grandsons on various projects.
Glen had many good friends. Along with his tightknit family, children, and grandchildren, they were the constants in his life. Glen was liked by everyone he met and he liked them back. He worked hard, played hard and was the life of the party, always full of humour and practical jokes. He extended kindness to neighbours, was unfailingly generous to anyone who needed a hand, and was constantly sharing his skills as the consummate handyman.
Glen loved his time both on and off the ice with the Rusty Blades, the old timers beer league he played with for over 30 years. He was also part of the Westwood Royals fast ball team but may have enjoyed the box parties more than the games.
A seat by the fire after a game of golf, with drink, cigar and cell phone in hand - in the company of a good friend or a family member - that was the richness of life to Glen.
A celebration of Glen's life will be held at a later date when restrictions are lifted.
Scott, Celia, Eric, Alison, Dustin, Connor and Carter want to extend their gratitude to both Rob and Dave, good friends of Glen's. They also want to thank the ICU team at the Grace Hospital for easing the family through something so difficult.
In lieu of flowers, should friends desire, a donation may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Sport Manitoba or to the charity of one's choice.

All the baseball and Hockey guys are deeply shocked and saddened. Glen became friends with almost anyone who ever met him. He was even liked by guys on opposing teams, including me, who he scored more than a few goals against. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but not forgotten. - Posted by: Jock Rodgers (Hockey and baseball Buddy) on: May 11, 2021

I met Glen many years ago through my sister Cheryl and he quickly became part of our family. I had the pleasure of meeting and spending time with three of his sons, Dustin, Connor and Carter, and they are a true testament of the amazing father Glen was. Always joking and full of life, it’s hard to imagine not seeing Glen at our next family celebration. My heart goes out to the Mikkelson family. I will miss him❤️ - Posted by: Karyn (Ridley) Crone (Friend) on: May 06, 2021

Glen was one of the good ones. He was my sales rep for years, starting when I was at Palmer Jarvis way back when, and for the past 25 years of running my own company. But he was more than that. Always there to talk to, golf with, grab a lunch with. When he lived on Doran Bay, he was the backyard neighbour to my parents place on Highcliff Bay. It was a bit of a double-take shock when I saw him over the fence one day, and we suddenly pieced together our two worlds. Such a nice guy. I was truly saddened to hear of his passing. He will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Randy Kohuch (Friend, work acquaintance, one-time neighbour) on: May 04, 2021

I knew Glen as a customer and as a friend. He was a great guy who always seemed to turn the conversation to his boys. He was very creative and a joy to work with. His word was a his bond. He will be missed. - Posted by: Bill Riches (Friend ) on: May 03, 2021

Glen lived with my family in Brandon when he played for the Brandon Wheat Kings and quickly became the big brother that I never had. Even though he was five years older than me, he always took the time to see what I was up to and helped me with whatever he could. Always the comedian, Glen and fellow teammate Robbie Neale kept us all in stitches with their antics. Glen was one of the most respectful and caring people I ever met. His passing will leave a hole in many hearts. My condolences to the family and I hope all the happy memories of Glen will help ease your pain. Glen was such a nice guy. Everyone liked him. We were able to travel with him a few times and that is where I really got to know him. He was always a gentleman and kind. An excellent sport. So sorry for your loss to all the family. My heart is broken for you. Terry was definitely there to meet him as are all his loved ones. Rest In Peace Glen❤️ - Posted by: Darlene Paterson (Friend and family ) on: May 02, 2021

Mik was a very dear friend I will miss all the get togethers, phone calls, mail chats and great times. The most thoughtful, caring, fun-loving man you can call a friend No matter what life threw at him he new how to handle it. He cared so much for his boys, his brother, and sisters, my thoughts are with them. My memories of nearly fifty years will live on forever. Love you Mik. - Posted by: Lloyd (Marcy) Beaucage (Friend) on: May 02, 2021

I would like to offer my deepest sympathy to all the Mikkelson family especially to brother Keith. Glen was a good ball player in the Crestview Mens Fastball for the Westwood Royals. I played against him for many years and he was a great guy and a great competitor. We also coached and shared ice time for our sons Crestview 8 year old hockey teams. It's very sad to learn when someone passes far too young. It was a real pleasure knowing Glen and competing with him and against him. - Posted by: Bruce Meyers (Friend ) on: May 01, 2021

Mik, my dear friend and 15 year defence partner, you are gone far too soon. Your dressing room spot next to me will always be cherished. I’ll miss yanking your sweater down over your shoulder pads, passing you a beverage & sharing many, many laughs together. Your extremely quick wit led to our locker room’s happy place. Your willingness to assist your friends with anything was admirable. I am thankful to call you my friend. Love you Mik, R.I.P.! Condolences to all members of the Mikkelson family. - Posted by: Doug Petersen (Friend/Defence partner) on: May 01, 2021

We lived on Doran Bay when Glen and the boys lived there. I babysat Scott and Eric from time to time. I have lots of great memories of Glen, Keith, my dad and Uncle Ernie when they played ball together. Fun times were always had. I, among many others, were surprised and deeply saddened by the news of Glen's passing. He lived with my family in Brandon during his time with the Brandon Wheat Kings. He was like the big brother I never had. Glen, along with Robbie Neale kept all of us in stitches. Not a day went by when we weren’t shaking our heads and laughing at their antics. Whether it was Glen getting cake in the face by my mother Shirley or just being there for me as a friend and mentor, he made us smile all the time and was one of the most respectful people I ever met in my life. The influence he had on me as a young person could never be measured or forgotten. You lived a full life and will never leave my thoughts. Wart, may you Rest In Peace. - Posted by: Bob Brockest (Acquaintance) on: May 01, 2021

You were always the life of the party and you made e everyone feel so welcome even if you just met them. Loved driving to Brandon to watch your hockey games and had to spend a few nights there because of the winter weather. Always watched all your sports -summer to winter including standing outside at Clifton Community Clun in the snow banks. You were far too young to be taken but the good part is you were not in any pain. You have raised an amazing family and all your boys are really nice people and you can be so proud of them. I will miss you each and every day and I will remember all the good times so I will not feel so sad. Love you for ever. - Posted by: Judy Grant (sister) on: May 01, 2021

Gary & I will miss him dearly. He was such a fun guy to work with. Always kept me & everyone else in the office laughing. One time when I was returning back to work after being off for months from fracturing my shoulder, he greeted me by wrapping his fingers with tape & wearing a sling. 😂 When Gary & him got together, they would team up to tease me, talk about double trouble. We would joke often that he was my work husband, but he was more like a older brother to me, much older. 😉. Even when we were both laid off, we kept in touch. He would call or text me often to see how we were doing especially after he found out that Gary had cancer. We will surely miss his humour. Cheryl, Scott, Eric, Dustin, Conner and Carter, I am so sorry that you lost him so soon. Just know that he would often talk to me about how proud he was of his boys & his Grandchildren. Cheryl, I know how much you meant to him, & he was such a lucky man to find someone that cared for him like you did, and could keep up with is quick wit. All our best! I was really saddened when I received an email this morning telling me that Glen had passed. We grew up together starting at Clifton School and countless hours on the ice or the fields at Clifton Community Club. No question whatever the sport Glen was our best player. A true athlete. As kids Glen was a good friend, and we always seemed to follow his lead. As a team mate you could not ask for more. Been a long time since I left Winnipeg and lost touch with many of the childhood friends but they always stay in our memories. Keith and the rest of the family my deepest sympathies. - Posted by: Harold Johnson (Friend) on: May 01, 2021

My sincere sympathy to all of the family on the passing of Glen. He stayed with my family (Jack and Shirley Brockest) during his time as a Brandon Wheat King. Lots of great memories! He even drove up to Clear Lake to surprise my Dad on his 65th birthday! RIP Glen. - Posted by: Cathie (Brockest) Strong (Friend) on: May 01, 2021

Mikkelson family; we are sad with today's announcement of Glen. We have known Glen for many years from arenas through to business. When doing business with Glen we knew that were dealing with an honest man who was also entertaining. Glen always treated our family with respect and integrity. Our condolences to the Mikkelson family. - Posted by: Milinkovic Family (friends) on: May 01, 2021

Glen was a few years older than I was, so we never really hung out. But I remember him in those early days as being very kind and friendly, even to a skinny kid who could hardly throw the ball. Those days at Clifton Community Club were filled with good fun and I can remember watching both Glen and Keith play incredibly. It’s funny, sometimes, what we remember. You are gone way too soon little brother. I miss you deeply. Miss the way you teased me. Will miss the late night calls asking me to "walk you home". Miss the phone calls to just talk. Miss your visits to see us and have so much fun. Miss the fun golf games here. Miss your hugs. You were an amazing brother to me and a wonderful dad to your boys. You showed us all how to enjoy life and to love unconditionally. We will never forget you. Thank you for loving so easily. Mik was a great team mate and friend. He never let anyone get too full of themselves but was always there for you when you needed him. Mik positively impacted everyone in his life. Nobody was safe from his ridicule. His door was always open to his friends and neighbours and he was never to busy to roll up his sleeves and lend a hand. Mik... we love you, we miss you. The world was a better place with you in it. Rest In Peace my friend. - Posted by: Bruce Rannard (Team mate, golf buddy & good friend) on: May 01, 2021
