CHRISTINE BURNS
(nee BARKER)
December 16, 1932 - May 2, 2021

Peacefully, with family at her side, Christine Burns passed away at the Grace Hospital on Sunday, May 2, 2021, at the age of 88.
Christine was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, John (Bob) Robert Burns; parents, Thomas and May Barker; son-in-law David Weber, and daughter-in-law Dr. Lisa Lugtig. She will be sorely missed by her children, Nicholas (Kendra), Mark (Cindy) and Fiona; grandchildren, Michael (Jenna), Andrew (Julie) and Robert; as well as great-grandchildren, Payton, Guinevere, Indiana and Forest.
Christine was born in Plymouth, England and grew up an only child, in a horse-drawn caravan that moved from port to port to rendezvous with her Royal Marine father. The family settled outside of Birmingham where Christine eventually met and married the love of her life, Bob, and welcomed two sons. She worked as a medical stenographer until 1960, when the Burns family immigrated to Canada.
Their family joy further expanded with the birth of Fiona, and Christine spent several years as a stay-at-home mother before returning to the workforce as a Confidential Secretary at the University of Manitoba. A devout Roman Catholic, lover of the Fine Arts, and travel enthusiast, Christine enjoyed exploring God's earth with Bob and had many fond memories of visiting destinations such as China, Australia and Mexico. Equally as precious, Christine loved travelling to spend time with her son, Mark, and his growing family in Southern Ontario. Back home, Christine was an active and talented member of the Manitoba Weavers & Fibre Artists, belonging to the Guild of Canadian Weavers.
The family would like to offer special thanks to the staff of the Grace Hospital for their great care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, or a charity of your choice.
Due to Covid restrictions, a private service was held at Bardal Funeral Home on Friday, May 7, 2021.

  • Condolences to you all. I used to babysit for the family. Mrs. Burns was a very soft spoken lady as I remember. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time. Elly Winnemuller/Garrett - Posted by: Elly Winnemuller/Garrett (Friend) on: May 08, 2021
