DAVID RITCHOT
November 9, 1939 - May 6, 2021

Peacefully on May 6, Dad passed away at the age of 81 in the company of his family, knowing he was not alone and that he was very much loved.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory Eveline (née Berthelette), his loving wife of 62 years, along with their seven children: Dolorès (Perry), Donald, Gilles (Michele), Ginette (Robert), Norbert (Sandra), Denis (Debbie) and Colin (Quetti). Also mourning the loss of their pépère are his twelve grandchildren: Craig, Kyle, Gina, Andrew, Matthew, Lisa, Mélanie, Nathan, Mikayla, Céleste, Talia and Jasmina.
David is predeceased by his parents, James and Germaine Ritchot; he was the eldest of nine children, leaving behind Rachelle (Leland), Norbert (Suzanne), Marcel (Henriette), Madeleine (Ron), Rolande (Richard), Denise (Roger), Emile (Lucy) and Arthur (Janice).
He also leaves behind two brothers-in-law, Aurèle (Carrie) and Claude and three sisters-in-law, Alice, Yvette and Paulette.
Dad was born and raised in Aubigny, MB and lived there for the greater part of his life. While he worked many jobs over the years, his true passions were farming and carpentry. He was a firm believer in working tirelessly and producing quality workmanship. Through his example, his children and grandchildren have mirrored these important values.
Upon retiring and moving to Winnipeg in 2009, Dad immersed himself into volunteerism. He quickly earned the nickname 'Soup King' at Siloam Mission, where he made true friendships while preparing countless warm meals. Dad was presented with a few awards during his 12 years of volunteering, a source of great pride for the entire family.
In Dad's recent years, he also became involved with Morberg House in St. Boniface. Continuing the legacy of 'Soup King,' Dad would bring pots of delicious soups and stews and of course his famous homemade bread and cinnamon buns. His welcoming demeanor fostered meaningful connections with the patrons of Morberg House. He was always willing to give his time, talent, and wisdom to family, friends and the community.

  • David and Eveline were the bestest neighbor anyone could have...always un "bonjour". David walked every day and was always looking after the neighbors, either snowblowing, cutting grass where needed, even came to help us trim branches when he saw we were doing it by hand...and came to save the day with his chainsaw!! He was an amazing caring man that we will never forget, I too was blessed by his delicious bread, and many pickerels from his many fishing trips!!
