1932 - 2021

William passed away on May 9, 2021 quietly at his home.
Bill was born in Methil, Scotland, and spent the first half of his life at sea in the British Merchant Navy. After moving to Canada he was employed at the University of Manitoba in the Police Department where he was Deputy Chief. His pride and joy was his cruiser, the Southern Cross II and spent many happy hours upgrading her and cruising Lake Winnipeg out in Gimli where his wonderful sense of humour attracted friends and strangers alike. A generous soul, he was always ready to lend a helping hand.
He is survived by his wife Laura (nee Walker), and his children, Ann Blagden (Richard), Gail Horne (in Scotland), and Vicky Philip (Marc Blais); grandsons, Mark Philip (Sandra), John W. Philip, and Scott Horne (in Scotland); as well as his brother George Philip (Jenny) in Australia, and many nieces and nephews in Australia, England, and Scotland.
Cremation has taken place. At his request, no funeral will be held.
Donations in his name may be made to a charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Laura: I was very sorry to read of Bill's passing. You have my deepest sympathy and condolences. I last saw Bill at Gimli pier - but I think that it was in 2019- when Skuli (son) and I were fishing. I recall your being there some years back now. Bill was always so cheerful and jolly. We will miss him and the Scottish flag - as I gather will his fellow mariners. I hope that you are bearing up, notwithstanding our pandemic and wish you well. Dick - Posted by: Richard A.
