  • So sorry to hear of Gilbert passing. I remember growing up next door to Gilbert and his family. Gilbert was the favorite to my grandparents. - Posted by: Monika Pertzsch (Former neighbors on Kingsbury Ave. (130)) on: Oct 28, 2021

  • Gilbert was such a kind soul. He was such a great support to his friend Jim. I imagine they've met up, in heaven, and are having a grand time catching up. Many years ago I was flying to Costa Rica, and this one trip, I routed via Miami. I checked in and was walking towards my gate. I heard something - and lo and behold - there was Gilbert, with some Deaf friends. He was bringing them to the Cayman Islands. He was their guide. Every time Gilbert came to see me, I burst out in smile. God bless you Gilbert. You did good. You did great. - Posted by: Sandy Lysachok (friend) on: Jul 09, 2021

  • I will always remember Gilbert, he was our cabin neighbour when I was growing up at the lake. I always felt he was watching over me and made sure I was safe. He had a wonderful laugh and good common sense. He was a real joy to be around. Love Debbie Williamson - Posted by: Deborah (Cabin) on: Jun 16, 2021

  • I am so sorry to hear of Gilbert's passing and my condolences to the family. I was a neighbour on Kingsbury Avenue and a friend of Gilbert's older brother, Mark. During the summer and almost every day during the week, Gilbert would walk over to my house. As always, he'd be smiling, with his lunch, and he'd get on the back of my 750 Kawasaki motorcycle. We'd take off down Main Street. It was usually cool and fresh in the morning and he laughed all the way to Portage and Main, where I'd let him off. He'd turn, smile, and wave good-bye. Then we'd do it again the next day. Rest in peace, Gilbert. - Posted by: Anthony Esposito (Neighbour & Friend) on: May 31, 2021

  • Gilbert was an inspiration. He seemed to greet life full throttle. He had a wonderful sense of humour, and was a light of joy wherever he went. His love for family ran deep. He was a great friend. Today the world feels less bright knowing that Gilbert is no longer sharing his light to everyone. Goodbye, Gilbert. Have fun with your crow and Uncle Ed. - Posted by: Jeannette (David) Wu (Cousin ) on: May 19, 2021

  • My best memory of Gilbert was minnow netting at the lake. I was part of the CYO group hosted by the Smerchanski family for an overnight gathering. Gilbert asked me to stand in the water and cast out the minnow net with him. We started at 4:00 pm and an hour and a half later, we were still net fishing! Dennis had to come and retrieve us for dinner. Gilbert’s love of life, laughter and fun will forever stay with me. Condolences with the mixed joy that Gilbert is reunited wholly with Our Lord and family members. - Posted by: Chris McGavock Davey (Friend of bygone years) on: May 17, 2021
