KENNETH DAVID CRAWFORD
March 4, 1929 - April 27, 2021
He leaves to honour his life our mom, Marj, and all six of us kids and our families: Dale and Kim; Gary and Tita; Cheryl and Paul; Penny and Brian; Teresa; and Douglas. He was predeceased by son-in-law, Michael. Dad was the proud "Papa" to eight grandchildren and seven great-granddaughters.
Dad was born near Killarney as one of nine children and raised on the family farm. Life wasn't always easy but his stories of those years were wonderful to listen to and usually had an element of fun and adventure. His first job away from farming life was driving a taxi in Killarney - the start of a lifelong love of cars and driving. He moved to Winnipeg as a young man on an adventure and soon found a job at Eaton's where he stayed for over 30 years.
Dad and Mom married in 1953 soon making Charleswood their home where Dad was an active volunteer taking on being a leader in scouting, minor hockey organizer and many hours at Varsity View including running the Sunday afternoon children's movies. At home he was a lot of fun, building a memorable tree fort, maintaining a backyard rink and playing all kinds of games with us. He was a dedicated member of the committee that established Assiniboine Forest, a legacy project he was proud of. During these years Dad also became a commercial beekeeper and he enjoyed all aspects of that venture.
Having fun was one of Dad's basic life philosophies and he was always ready to try something new. Although he never considered himself an athlete he was good at most sports that he tried - rollerblading, snow skiing and snow boarding (taking his final run on the slopes in his 80th year). In Dad's world everything was fixable, his reputation as a handyman, particularly with cars, was well respected in our family and among neighbours. He embraced new technology at every opportunity, teaching himself how to use it and often how to repair it as well.
We will miss Dad's entertaining story telling, his laugh and positive attitude as well as the twinkle in his eyes. We will remember him always with a smile and a warm heart.

I am so saddened to hear of Ken's passing. Ken was the highlight of my work days. His bright smile and funny conversations reminded me of my own opa. Ken was a beloved customer and member of the CMU community. Many students knew Ken because he was so easy to strike up a conversation with. When I started my full time schooling at RRC, Ken was the highlight of my one Saturday shift a week. He’d walk into the cafe, see me, stagger back as if caught off guard saying “oh my goodness! it must be Saturday”. This became a beloved tradition every Saturday for the next 2 years. I will miss Ken ever so dearly, he made a lasting impression, and enriched my time working at Folio Cafe. - Posted by: Hedi Peters (His Barista at Folio Cafe) on: Oct 24, 2021

To Dale and entire Crawford clan, please accept my sincere condolence on the passing of your Dad. Knew when I saw the name and picture it was your Dad. He popped into the pharmacy occasionally. FYI, 4 years older than moi. - Posted by: Elaine Alexander (Former employee SDM Fort Richmond) on: May 25, 2021

My dad was Ken's brother Richard Crawford (or Mac as he was know to his siblings). We travelled a lot as dad was in the Air Force so because the Crawford Clan is so large we did not have an opportunity to meet. We lost our dad a year ago and I still think of him everyday. You mention that you enjoyed his stories of growing up and the twinkle in his eye. I too enjoyed dad's stories and he also had a good sense of humour and a twinkle in his eye. Must be a Crawford trait as I remember Uncle Jim fondly as well. So sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Allison Fulton (Cousin) on: May 22, 2021

Dale and Family. Sending my condolences on the loss of your dad. Myself and my two sisters grew up in Charleswood and went to school with you guys. Its so hard to lose a parent. Our dad passed many years ago and our mom just 4 years ago. But they leave us with a lifetime of memories and love. Wish you all well.
