SISTER THERESE CLOUTIER
Besides her religious family, Sister Thérèse leaves to mourn five sisters: Denise Sabourin, Dolores Sarreault; Cécile Buck; Sister Yvette (Gabrielle) sgm and Marie Pennie (Peter); sisters-in-law: Angela, Marie and Gail; numerous nieces and nephews; and Thérèse's special "God With-Us Community".
She was preceded by her parents, two sisters: Rita and Clothilde Bellerive (Maurice); seven brothers: Joseph (Louisa), Gerard, Alphonse (Alice), Maurice, Eugène, Georges (Irène) and Jean; and brothers-in-law: Denis Sabourin, Jean Sarreault and William Buck.
Thérèse, daughter of Gabriel Cloutier and Lumina Ritchot, was born on July 28, 1929 in St. Norbert, Manitoba. She was the eighth child of a family of 16 children. From grades one to nine, Thérèse attended St Victor elementary school, then continued her studies at the Grey Nuns Convent in St. Norbert. Thérèse was touched by their love and compassion and decided to join the Sisters on February 5, 1949. Two years later, she consecrated her life to the Lord following in the footsteps of Saint Marguerite d'Youville, through religious profession on August 15, 1951.
After professing her vows, Sister Thérèse dedicated herself in boarding schools: Lebret, Saskatchewan and St. Norbert Convent for over 10 years. Her love for young people encouraged her to pursue her studies in education. In 1968, having completed her Teacher's College, she began teaching in Ste-Anne-des-Chênes, grades four and five. In 1983, Sister Thérèse coordinated religious education at Lavallée School as well as organized monthly spiritual meetings for young adults.
In 1992, Sister Therése moved to Ste-Rose-du-Lac and volunteered at Ste-Rose's Hospital and parish ministry. Her love for the youth led her to organize a program for young people, called "Youth Outreach". After eighteen years of dedicated service, Sister Thérèse came to Despins Residence where she continued to help in various ways until her health started to fail, eventually she was transferred to Actionmarguerite (St. Boniface). Everyone will remember her great sense of humour which brought joy and laughter wherever she went particularly in family gatherings, community life and youth ministry.
The Grey Nuns and Cloutier family wish to thank the staff at Despins Residence especially 2nd Floor Supportive Housing and Actionmarguerite St. Boniface (3DE) for their dedication, love and compassion towards Sister Thérèse Cloutier.
Due to Covid 19, prayers and Funeral Mass will be held by invitation only on May 24, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Despins Residence, 151 Despins Street, officiated by Father Michel Nault.
