ALFRED NACHTIGALL

It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Alfie, on May 17, 2021, at the age of 77. With his loving family by his side, he left the ones he loved and the community he was so proud to be a part of. Alfie has gone to be with his Lord and Saviour.
Alf married his best friend, and love of his life, Kris (Bjornsson). They were married for 58 years and their home was always a welcoming place for many. Alf treasured the farm that he was raised on in the New Home District. Together Alf and Kris worked hard and were proud to have raised their three children on the family farm. It took a lot of duct tape, innovative repair jobs and lots and lots of laughs. Alf was a smart man in all the ways that mattered, and a goofball in all the ways we loved.
Alf's career saw him as an awarded Butter Maker, a CN Foreman, a Guard from Lundar to Gypsumville Detachments and always, always a farmer. He was a volunteer his whole life and was dedicated to making a difference in his hometown community of Moosehorn. Over the years you could find him on the Peace Lutheran Church Council; as the Curling Club President and Auctioneer; as The Moosehorn Community Club Friday Nite Bingo Caller; and as the President of the Community Club, right to the day he passed. Alf also volunteered on short term events, this past winter standing in the freezing cold dressed as Santa.
Alf will be missed by his loving wife Kristin; his children who fondly referred to him as their Hero....daughter Dianne (Glen), grandchildren, Meagan (Greg) and Nicholus; #1 son Duane (Mavis); daughter Dawn (Rick), grandchildren, Ashley (Quentin), great-granddaughter Iris, and Kelsey (Logan); step-grandchildren, Hayley (Nick), step-great-granddaughter Emmeline, Denyne; Kaine, Riley, Bryce and Paetyn; honorary son Peter and friend and godson Stacy.
Alf was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Ella Nachtigall, his in-laws, Gertrude and Gudjon Bjornsson, sister-in-law Bev Nachtigall, brothers-in-law, Ernie and Pete Meisner and honorary son Steven Meisner.
Left to cherish his memory are his siblings, Wally, Shirley (Glen), Donnie (Karen) and Bev (Randy), in-laws, Jacki, Runi and Laverne (Chuck). Alfie will also be missed by extended family and friends including lifelong friends from Morden and Miami. To those whose lives he touched he leaves behind beautiful memories for years to come. Alfie will never truly be gone as his loving nature, caring ways and abundance of love will be with us always.
The family would like to acknowledge the amazing healthcare staff at Arborg Hospital for the care, dignity and support they gave Alf and his family in the last day of his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to Peace Lutheran Church, Box 68, Moosehorn, MB R0C 2E0 or Moosehorn Community Club, PO Box 69, Moosehorn, MB R0C 2E0 or a charity of your own choice.
There will be a graveside service once covid restrictions allow.

I love you; my best friend, the love of my life. Kris

  • It’s has been said that people often forget what you say but never how you make them feel. Uncle Alf had a way to make everyone in his presence feel valued and special. As a child he always had time to listen to me prattle on and never seemed bored no matter how long my stories went. As an adult he always greeted me with a big smile and asked how things were going, genuinely interested. My heart goes out to his family at this time of great loss. He was loved immensely and will not be forgotten. Go rest high on that mountain Uncle Alf your work on earth is done. - Posted by: Lesley Gosselin (Niece ) on: May 22, 2021

  • To all of you I send my Love and prayers. God has taken another angel home. I have only ever know him as Uncle Alfie. Even thought he wasn't my Uncle he always treated me like I was special. His smile was infectious as was his laughter. I will miss him greatly. May he find peace in the arms of God. and My all of you find comfort in Prayer. God Bless. - Posted by: Barb Jolly (Life time friend ) on: May 22, 2021

  • Dear Krisy and family...I am sad to learn of Alf’s death. I remember him well from the time I served at Peace Lutheran for a one year interim. I recall Alf’s dedication to live out his faith in the church and his strong commitment to serving God and community. I so appreciated his presence on church council and especially during our council retreat. Alf was so willing to learn and embrace new things ...like the constitution...that was such fun. You will all miss him terribly...so hold on to the memories and hold onto the faith that God promises peace and life everlasting. May you find comfort in that promise and one another.
