JEANNE PAULINE WRIGHT
1939 – 2021

The Charleswood house is unusually quiet this week, except for tears of sadness as we said goodbye to an amazing mother, incredible wife, loving grandmother and loyal friend. Jeanne had a tough last 2.5 years, especially the last few months, but she battled hard right to the end, as was her character. She sadly succumbed to her illness May 12 at Health Science Centre, passing away peacefully at the young age of 82, Kim and Chelsea nearby. Her kindness, her smile, thoughtfulness, gentleness and constant need to feed everyone will be missed.
Jeanne was predeceased by her parents, Eva and Alex Sorba; husband Allan Wright; brothers-in-law, Ed (Helen), Cliff (Mona), Lloyd (Marion) and sisters-in-law, Evelyn and Pearl (George).
She is survived by daughter Kim (Mike) Van Cauwenberghe and granddaughters, Chelsea and Kyana; brother Ed (Janice) Sorba and sister Olga (Andrew) Hawryluk and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mom was born and raised in Winnipeg, MB, and attended Victoria Albert, Hugh John MacDonald and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate.
Jeanne's first job was with Canadian Indemnity Insurance, where she met her dream guy, Allan Wright. It was love at first sight. They married in July 1960 and in 1970, Kimberly was born. After that, mom changed jobs a few times, starting at the Heart Foundation, then moving to the Legislative Building and then MB Conservation, retiring in 2003.
During their years, Jeanne and Al spent many weekends at the "Wright Place," their cottage in Treherne and summers were spent in Lake of the Woods.
Jeanne was a dedicated grandma to Chelsea and Kyana as well. Jeanne loved spending time with them, enjoying lots of special times and laughs.
Mom never forgot her friends. Meeting in grade school, Jeanne, Elsie and Jackie still got together for lunch every Friday……over 60 years later. She kept in touch with friends from past jobs, the neighbor group and all her friends at the Canadian Legion.
This amazing woman will be remembered for a lot of things, but something everyone mentions is her kindness and selflessness. Her strength was mindboggling, her patience unending, and her love unwavering. Many have commented on mom's welcoming smile and hugs, and her "24 hour deli."
So many people love you Mom.
At this time, there will be no service held for Jeanne due to restrictions, however, sending memories of Jeanne is encouraged for the production of a memorial video. Please email your memories, and/or pictures to kimmyveecee@gmail.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to either the Royal Canadian Legion, or the Canadian Diabetes Foundation.

  • Kim and family: We were so sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing, Kim. Your Mother/Grandmother was a wonderful, caring person whose warm, easy-going personality automatically drew people to her. Her (and your Dad’s) hospitality was surpassed by no other. We are so glad that we were able to keep in touch, albeit not as often as we would have liked. Our sincere condolences to all of you. - Posted by: Hanley and Marilyn Gates (Cousin ) on: May 23, 2021
