FRANCES MILES
September 26, 1921 - May 19, 2021
Frances began her life the youngest of four children and even though she re-counts hard times, her family always pulled together and supported each other. She stayed close with her siblings, especially her sister Esther. She and her loving husband Richard enjoyed a full life together, travelling, enjoying the arts, raising their children and doting on their grandchildren.
Our Mom was a strong, independent, feisty, smart, inquisitive woman, who loved life and people. She was mentally vivid, determined and witty right until the end.
Mom was interested in everything life had to offer. She loved the theatre, symphony and ballet and was a Blue Bomber fan for over 60 years. She could match any Jeopardy contestant, was a whiz at crossword puzzles, and exercised at the gym and played Bridge well into her late 90s. Nobody could host a social gathering like our Mom. Her home was open to all with gourmet food and incredible baking. Family celebrations won't be the same without her!
In the spirit of our ritual of watching the Oscars together, we want to honour our mother with a Lifetime Achievement Award - for living true to her philosophy of "attitude, optimism and unconditional love."
We had a small gathering graveside with other family and friends on Zoom and toasted her with a dram of Scotch. She would have loved the send off!
We'd like to thank the Palliative Teams for their care and support.
Donations can be made to the Canadian Museum of Human Rights in honour of Frances Miles.

One word describes Fran...Incredible! This Lady deeply loved her family. A brilliant bridge player. A voracious reader. A keen mind, keeping current on all topics. Energy beyond her 99 years. Forever remembered for her inspiration and our engaging conversations. - Posted by: Linda & Butch (Neighbour) on: May 29, 2021

I am one of the fortunate people of this world to meet and get to know Francis (if only a little) and my life and memory bank are better for it! We met at the pool at Tuxedo Estates and also would run into each other at the Rady gym. Francis would be working out on a machine and I (in my 60’s ) would be thinking that’s what I should be doing! I had opportunities to chat with Francis when she was out power walking around the complex. She had so much energy and positive vibes!! Francis will be very missed by all of us here but I can honestly say I will feel her encouraging, confident voice every time I enjoy our pool. I have lived here for almost four years and Francis has been a highlight! - Posted by: Elaine Paulson (Friend and TE neighbour) on: May 29, 2021
