It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mom. Esther was the second youngest and passed the second last of 14 children. Esther married Arthur Townsend on December 10, 1953. The couple raised three daughters in Winnipeg, MB.
Esther leaves to mourn her three daughters, Debbie (Russ), Cindy (Steve) and Renee; grandchildren, Cory, Chad (Janyne), Amy (Derrick), Jen (Jeff), Kayla (Brian), Kari (Matthew) and Connor; great-grandchildren, Quaid, Tory, Jade, Haleigh, Georgia, Kemery, Colt and Max; sister Elsie and sisters-in-law, Joyce and Helen and countless nieces and nephews. Esther was predeceased by her husband of 27 years, Arthur; mother and father, Ernestina and August; son-in-law Tony; grandsons, Blaine and Burke; brothers, Fred, August, Arthur, Willie and Charlie; sisters, Helen, Tillie, Ida, Martha, Annie, Alma and Olga; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Boundary Trails Health Centre in Winkler for the loving care they showed our Mom and Nana. As per mom's wishes, she was cremated and a private family ash interment in Ashern will take place at a later date.

  • Aunty is in my Earliest memories, i was a regular visitor until i discovered the opposite sex, i was a young child walking around in pink plastic Cinderella high heeled shoes, Debbie was too. Giggles and love. Being 69 many memories have faded, but not too many with Aunty in them. Ashern Barn Dances with my relatives! Aunty and my Mom Olga dancing the polka and the butterfly. Getting three people to join in was not a problem. The Yanke family was quite a fun loving crew. I loved Aunty Esther. and Uncle Art more than words can say, Debby, Cindy, Renny & families I offer you my sincere condolences and loving sympathy. I know Aunty Esther is now with Uncle Art and my Mom and Dad, that knowledge gives me great solace and I hope you get comfort from it too, Together Forever and Always, Love, Karen. - Posted by: Karen McMillan (Niece) on: May 29, 2021
