DOUGLAS DANIEL KWIECIEN

Douglas Daniel Kwiecien, loving husband to Karmen, passed peacefully at his home on Saturday, May 29, 2021 surrounded by love, at the age of 66.
He is survived by his sons, Adam (Jodi) and Matthew (Katherine); his grandchildren, Paige, Frank, Kate, Walter and Isaak; his sons' mother Valerie (Edward) Sigurdsson; brother Richard (Louise); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Gladys Kwiecien; and his sister Wendy and brother-in-law Alex Kuluk.
Doug was born on July 24, 1954 in Winnipeg Manitoba. Doug was brought up in the north end of Winnipeg and always had "North End Pride." He was an accomplished athlete in many sports with many accolades including North American Speed Skating Champion amongst many others. He started his working career with Titan Foundry and then moved into the clothing industry for 20 years. Doug returned to Titan Foundry for his last 17 years of employment. He loved his profession and built amazing relationships with everyone in the industry. He was very well respected and loved. Doug was fortunate to be able to travel and his favourites were Puerto Vallarta and Palm Springs. He enjoyed the sun and heat, and felt that it was "medicine".
Doug's favourite times were spent with his loving family, especially his grandchildren. He loved to attend sporting activities which started with his son's soccer/volleyball and hockey/lacrosse games. This trend continued and it was rare to not see him at all of his grandchildren's activities. We enjoyed Sunday dinners as a family and Doug cherished and looked forward to it every week. He immersed himself in the kitchen in his later years and looked forward to making meals that his grandchildren requested and devoured.
Doug's family would like to thank all the health care workers of CancerCare Manitoba, Palliative Care and Home Care that supported him throughout his battle. He was always treated with respect and compassion which in turn allowed him to live as comfortably as possible.
Doug will be sorely missed by everyone who was lucky enough to know him. He made everyone around him feel special. He had an amazing optimistic outlook on life, even thoughout his sickness. His attitude and dignity were comforting to his family and will be a guide in the years to come for his loved ones.
Doug felt strength which came from all the prayers and thoughts that were sent his way.

May the arms of Jesus hold him tightly
in comfort until we meet again.

  • I can't begin to explain how much Doug meant to me. Having known Doug & Karmen for over 20 years and spending so many good times together around the world and knowing I won't see him again is the worst. No matter what was going on Doug was always the man to lift peoples spirits with his Shadyisms ...."OK cut that" "What's crackling big dog" "Sham Wow" "touches everything, bought F--k all" and times he was asked in bars what he wanted to drink his reply would be "surprise me" always took the staff a bit by surprise. My thoughts and prayers are with Karmen, Adam, Matt and their families. We'll have a Glady together again one day Shady, love ya buddy X - Posted by: Les Warren (Moe) (Friend) on: Jun 06, 2021

  • Doug will be missed by the industry he loved and made so many friends in. A successful leader with a positive outlook and a person that brightened every room he entered and not just by the shirts he wore. Good times were had, memories were made.
