Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • Sorry to hear about Gerry's passing. We were soccer teammates for many years starting with Grant Mill Sword. He was a fierce competitor with an awesome goal scoring touch. My condolences. - Posted by: Rolf Zimmer (Teammate) on: Jun 18, 2021

  • Sandy and I are saddened to hear of Gerry's sudden passing. We had a lot of great memories over the years and became roommates for over 5 years. Gerry was my best man at our wedding over 36 years ago and whenever we made it back to the Peg I always got in touch with my old friend. We had played a lot of hockey, sponge hockey and golf over the years and he will be sorely missed. Craig Dickson - Posted by: Craig & Sandy Dickson (friend) on: Jun 17, 2021

  • I had the honour of going to school with Gerry through those critical and formative grade school years at Strathmillan, Golden Gate and SHCI. Gerry was a consistent 'nice guy' the whole way through. While we lost touch with one another after grade school, I am sure that his genuine warmth and sense of humour stayed with him throughout his altogether too short of a life. My deepest condolences to Gerry's family and friends. Paul Casey - Posted by: Paul Casey (School friend) on: Jun 16, 2021

  • Gerry and I go back to Grade 1 and have been long time friends, starting with sports in school such as soccer at recess and playing on school teams to playing organized hockey. Gerry was the impetus to start Grant Mill Sword soccer team after school and although I stopped around 28 years old, he continued on well into his later years with another generation of people who got to know this kind and gentle man. Yesterday, I went and played golf at Assiniboine to honour our friend, with my wife Barb, who would see Gerry cutting the lawn in previous years and always come over to talk with her and her group. To everyone who knows Gerry, he is just that warm and friendly person. Always wearing a smile and wanting to see you smile too. It is sad to see you leave this world so easy my friend, but I have been smiling thinking of all of the crazy parties, outings and fun we had over the many years. In recent years, we haven't seen each other much and it is too late to change that, but rest assured you have been and will always be a friend of mine. • I was so sorry to hear of Gerry's passing. I remember spending lots of time at my Aunt Lorraine's with my big cousin, Gerry. He, of course, was larger than life to me, my sister and brother. Heartfelt condolences to our family in Winnipeg who are left to grieve. We, your country cousins, are looking forward to a time (hopefully soon) when we can join you to reminisce and grieve together. Big hugs to you all! - Posted by: Nora Heschuk (cousin) on: Jun 10, 2021

  • To the Browne Family: My name is Dino Buzunis and I played hockey with Gerry and our other teammates through the Woodhaven Community Center in St. James when we were teenagers. In our last season our coach Al Paterson “Smoothie” led us to the City Championship! We were down 3-0 and came back to win the series and Championship 4-3! Gerry was a key player on the team and all around great guy! Please accept my deepest sympathies on your loss. May his memory be eternal! file:///var/mobile/Library/SMS/Attachments/2f/15/DCABA865-4CAA-4121-BF96-563E0AEE8E06/IMG_2469.heic - Posted by: Constantine “Dino” Buzunis (Friend/Teammate) on: Jun 09, 2021

  • Neil and I are so saddened to hear of Gerry’s untimely passing. Gerry was one of my brother’s very best friends and spent alot of time at our home. We also “hung out” at Silver Heights Community Club. We will always remember him as such a fun and special friend. Deepest condolences to Gerry’s family and friends during this most difficult time.
