MARY WINCHAR

The family of Mary Winchar are deeply saddened to announce her passing on Thursday June 3, 2021 at the Riverview Palliative Care Centre.
Mom was born on July 11, 1929 in Gimli, Manitoba. She was predeceased by her husband Nicholas, parents, Martin and Annie Wishniwecki; sister Millie, and other family members of the Winchar family.
She leaves to mourn sons, Chris and Allan (Lori); sister Eileen Meiklejohn and brother-in-law Harry Meiklejohn; brother-in-law Bishop Michael Wiwchar; grandsons, Brad (Kristee), Gavin (Tiffany), Cory (Jill), Kolia (Sheena), as well as great-granddaughters, Ellica, Hailey, Miya; and great-grandsons, Dominic, Jagger and Santino, and also numerous friends, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mom grew up in Arnes, Manitoba in her early years and moved to Winnipeg as a teenager working at the YWCA and Eaton's mail order department while living on Burrows Avenue.
Mom was very proud of her affiliation with the St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church and had just received her 60-year membership pin from the St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Ladies league prior to her passing.
One of mom's favourite comments during telephone conversations was "hold the line" when she was asked to bring anyone to the phone - a phrase commonly used when telephone switchboard operators were previously necessary.
She was fortunate to celebrate 66 years of marriage prior to Dad's passing in 2015. They had lived in Kelowna, BC for 25 years prior to returning to Winnipeg in 2010. Lots of fond memories both in Kelowna and St. Andrews where they created the Green Thumb Nursery.
