LENARD ZIEMOWIT WALESIAK
January 14, 1948 – June 4, 2021

It is with deep sadness, that the Walesiak family announces the sudden passing of Lenard Walesiak. Lenard passed away on June 4 at Selkirk General Hospital.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Sharron, daughter Shannon (Barry) Thomson, grandchildren, Shelbie (Michael) and Brodie, and his sister Gladys Kirby, brothers, Arthur (Trudy), and Erwin (Lucille). He will also be lovingly remembered by his mother-in-law Helen Rougeau, sister-in-law Joyce (John) Finnbogason and brother-in-law Lorne Rougeau, numerous nieces and nephews, and the many friends that he made throughout the years.
Lenard was predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Katherine, father-in-law Leo Rougeau, brother and sister-in-law Edwin and Helen Walesiak, sister and brother-in-law Janet and Steve Sliboda and sister-in-law Eileen Walesiak.
Lenard was born January 14, 1948 and raised in Brightstone, Manitoba. He attended school in Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba. Upon graduating, Lenard moved to Winnipeg and began working at Manitoba Public Insurance, beginning a 31-year career as a Senior Adjustor until his retirement in 2003.
Meeting his wife Sharron as a teenager, Lenard married his best friend on November 6, 1971. They enjoyed 50 years of marriage and raising a beautiful daughter, Shannon. Lenard put his family first and was overjoyed to welcome grandchildren, Shelbie and Brodie. Lenard was a proud and devoted father and Pops. He loved spending time with them, often driving them to school, a tradition he started by driving Shannon to school.
Lenard loved golf and took great pride in maintaining a good lawn. He even won the "Best Maintained Yard" in Valley Gardens one year! An enthusiastic traveller, Lenard and Sharron made several annual trips to Arizona, Cuba and Texas to escape Winnipeg winters. Lenard also enjoyed spontaneous excursions to the casinos in the United States for the weekend. Sharron and Lenard made some great friends on these trips and had a lifetime of adventures.
After residing on Bayne Crescent in Winnipeg for 34 years, Lenard and Sharron moved to a quiet area in the country. Lenard continued to maintain the best lawn in the neighbourhood, often being asked what his secret was. Retirement and country living afforded him the free time to enjoy running errands to the grocery store, doing odd jobs around the house and most of all, going for daily walks with his best companion, Porkchop, the granddog.
A special thank you to Dr. Prematilak and the medical staff at Selkirk General Hospital for their care and support. Also, we would like to extend our gratitude to family and friends for their compassion and prayers during this difficult time.
Due to COVID an interment will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Lenard's name may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.

Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • Len and His wife Sharron have been my neighbours for many years. Len was always very kind to me with a cheerful wave or a greeting to my dog. He really did have the nicest yard on the block. Len used to secretly plough my driveway for me in the winter, and would even make arrangements for someone else to do it when he wasn’t home. He would never take a penny from me though I tried and tried. Even tried a Tim’s card…. He liked to talk about my bees cause it reminded him of helping his dad spin honey when he was a kid. I will miss seeing Him walking his grand dog and working in his yard. RIP Len. - Posted by: Brandy Catton (Neighbour) on: Jul 25, 2021
