1938 - 2021

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Barbara Baldwin (nee Ohlsen) on June 14, 2021, at 83 years of age.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 53 years, Norman; her two sons, Kerry (Renee) and Kelly; brother Harvey (Carol) Ohlsen; beloved grandchildren, Kurt (Emma), Kelsey (Travis) and Matthew (Jessica), and great-grandchildren, Jaycee and Gunnar, along with other family and dear friends. Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Hedvig and John.
Born in Winnipeg, MB, she spent part of her early childhood in Fort William, Ontario and then back to Winnipeg. Barb, aka Babs, by her school friends, was very social and loved attending dances and movies at the local community club in Transcona. She landed her dream job after school and weekends at Robert's Drugstore soda fountain and later was a proud teller at the Bank of Commerce. Summer highlights were always family times at Grand Beach.
Barb met and married Norman and moved to Starbuck where she resided for close to 55 years - in the bush, as she liked to call it. She worked tirelessly on the ranch as well as in the Starbuck School while raising their two boys.
She had a heart of gold, a sharp wit, and strength beyond measure. She enjoyed knitting, bowling, playing bingo and all things Danish. Her Aebleskiver (Danish pancake balls) were everyone's favourite.
In her retirement years she looked forward to sharing stories over morning coffee up town with friends. She adored her grandchildren and was always surrounded by their pictures to hold them close to her.
The family would like to thank the staff at Boundary Trails Health Centre, Dr. Tyler Atchison at Carman Community Health Centre and Dr. Christie Sathianathan at St. Boniface Hospital for the care and kindness they've shown her.
Cremation has taken place with a private family service to be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Boniface Hospital Renal Clinic.

  • So sorry to read of Barbara's passing. We have such great memories of the Ohlson's coming to the farm. Always coffee and lots of laughter. Mom and Dad Marvin and Edith Winther Brown always made sure chores were all done early when they heard John and Hedvig had planned to come out for a visit. Thinking of your family at this time and I'm sure the Winther families want to be included in this condolence much love Lorraineđź’™ - Posted by: Lorraine (Don (d))Hughes nee Brown Ken and Sharon Brown Verna and Bill Nisbett.
