Peacefully on June 16, Merle was called home by our loving Father. There, she was welcomed by her parents, Rene and Elizabeth Normand, sister Lil, and granddaughter Rachel. A heavenly reunion and celebration in the glory of God's full and unending love!
She leaves to mourn her loving husband Jerry, with whom she recently celebrated 62 years of marriage, daughter Gail (Dave), sons, Gerry (Nancy), Mark, Mike (Tracy), Paul (Sandra) and Norm (Sue), grandchildren, Travis, Jolene, Beth, Jess, Becki, Montana, Tory, Mason, Liam, Makailey, Emily, Zac and Colby, also seven great-grandchildren, her brother Gordon (Shelly), and many extended family members and a multitude of friends.
Merle's life was her family and her faith. Her love of family and Jesus was present in all she did. She leaves us a legacy of love and precious memories of countless family events including many family reunions.
Our family would like to extend sincere gratitude to all the staff of Residence Despins for all they did to help us care for Mom and add to her time of living there. Also many thanks to the wonderful staff at St. Boniface Hospital who cared for Mom during her many hospital stays this past year.
Due to Covid restrictions, Funeral Mass will be celebrated on June 23 with immediate family only at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church with burial to follow at Green Acres. You are invited to join us virtually by accessing the Livestream link at in the upcoming Services tab.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • My heart broke today when I heard the news at Mass that Merle had been called home by our loving Father. I always looked forward to seeing her at Mass so I was very sad to hear the news. Merle was such a sweet woman who would share little stories with me about growing up Metis in St. Vital. She would always greet me and leave me with the same greeting, "Love you my sister in Christ." My sincerest condolences to her loving family and to all who loved her. Merle you will be forever missed. Rest in paradise. Love you Merle, my sister in Christ <3 - Posted by: Maxine Boulanger (Sister in Christ) on: Jun 27, 2021

  • The Lorette Local would like to send our condolences to Jerry Grossman and Merle's family and friends. Although I only met Merle a few times I remember her well. Merle was a founding member of the local and we have heard from some of our members about her dedication and her years of support and service to the local and MMF. Our deepest sympathies to her family. - Posted by: Andrea Clarke (friend) on: Jun 21, 2021
