JAMES (JIM) WILLIAM SMITH
March 30, 1950 - June 16, 2021

It is with heavy hearts that we sadly announce the passing of Jim Smith on June 16, 2021, following a courageous battle with cancer at Riverview Health Centre.
Jim is lovingly remembered by his wife Kathie, of 46.5 years, and will be sorely missed by siblings, Blake (Aline), Cathy (Gordon), Terence (Heather) and Trevor. He will also be missed by his sisters-in-law, Patti (Jim) and Barbara (Wayne); his favourite niece Nene, nephews, uncle Pat Mansfield and many cousins. Jim was truly blessed to have many wonderful lifelong friends such as Bill and Ron-Arnie#1.
He was predeceased by his parents, Bob and Kae Smith; father and mother-in-law John and Margaret McMorland; one of his best friends Frank Sabatini; and many close aunts and uncles.
Jim had a keenly observant mind, sense of humour and quick wit. He loved to make people laugh. He enjoyed curling, sports, playing cards and travelling.
Jim wanted to thank all his friends and family for the emails, phone calls and visits with food, treats and the lunches at the Curtis over the last few years. They meant so much to him.
A sincere thanks to all staff who worked with and cared for Jim at CancerCare Manitoba, Palliative Care Riverview Health Centre and home care. They ensured his last few days with us were peaceful as possible.
As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of Jim's life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation Inc., 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.

  • We are so sorry for your loss Kathie but Jim is now at peace. He was one of the funniest people we ever knew, but also very friendly and caring. We enjoyed being neighbours and later enjoyed bumping into you both also enjoyed when he would pop into say Hi to me at work on your way into your Movie at KP. We send you our deepest sympathy! • We were very sorry to hear about Jim's passing we haven't seen Jim for awhile it was always nice to catch up with him when ever we ran in to him. Our condolences to Kathy and the rest of his family, My favorite passage in the Bible is "to be absent from the body is to be with the Lord" Jim is in good hands now, God Bless. - Posted by: Ken and Linda Barnett (Friends and Cousin) on: Jun 19, 2021

  • I am Dero, the son of Frank Sabatini. Uncle Jim and Auntie Kathy were a center piece of our lives from the time I could remember remembering. When they came up our driveway, I was always ecstatic. I knew it meant good food and good times. I can not overstate the influence he had on my life. My family had the divine benefit of Uncle Jim, Auntie Kathy, and Bill and Sue visiting us in Toronto just a few years back. Of course a card game broke out……just like it always did, with Uncle Jim’s strict etiquettes in force. God Bless You…..we will miss you. - Posted by: Dero Sabatini (Nephew) on: Jun 19, 2021
