AREEN MARY MULDER
April 11, 1933 – June 22, 2021

It is with sadness and fond memories that we announce the passing of our beloved Areen at the St. Boniface Hospital after a brief stay at the Riverview Health Centre.
Areen was the fourth child of five born to Dutch immigrants, Gerrit and Dirksje Mulder who settled at the family homestead and farm along the Red River in East St. Paul. Areen attended the one room school in East St. Paul and later attended Lord Selkirk High School in Winnipeg.
Areen was predeceased by her parents, brothers, Everett in 2013, Dick in 2019, and her long-time friend Gary Richardson in 2013. Areen is survived by her brother George, sister Nellie Allen, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and many friends. She cherished her family and always remembered and celebrated their birthdays, anniversaries, and special occasions.
Areen worked for Commercial Union Insurance preceding a stellar career as a recognized and major influence at the Manitoba Historical Society. Her knowledge and dedication was admired and appreciated by thousands. Areen was an avid reader, an extremely knowledgeable historian, and through her years assembled a comprehensive portfolio of detailed information on the history of towns, villages, and churches throughout Manitoba and Canada. Many of Areen's pieces are on display and archived at Manitoba Archives. Areen enjoyed travelling on group tours through many provinces and territories furthering her knowledge on their historical impacts and memories of her country.
Areen was a devout Christian and lived her life without biases or prejudices and was always willing to offer her support to others. Areen was loved by all who knew her. Areen was an instrumental member and selfless volunteer for many years at the St. Phillips Anglican church until their closing in 2020.
Heartfelt Thanks and Appreciation to all of the caring doctors, nurses, and support staff at St. Boniface, Riverview, the EMT's and First Responders.
Cremation has taken place and a private funeral service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Riverview Health Centre, 1 Morley Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3L 2P4, Unit Neuro Rehab Stroke Unit 4E.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I was so sorry to hear of Areen's passing. A wonderful woman, who always had a smile for everyone. Her attention to details always astounded me. For the decades we celebrated together at St. Philip's she was always willing to help out and step in where needed. I am sad that we lost touch in the past year but promise to not forget this beautiful soul. My thoughts and prayers are with her family. - Posted by: Christy Schmidt (Church Friend) on: Jun 28, 2021
