JAMES FINLAY MCRAE
Dad is survived by his loving wife Lorraine McRae; his children, Steve (Liz), Carrie, Trevor (Maureen) and Brad (Wanda); grandchildren, Jillian, Sydney and Craig, Madison and Payton, Mason; great-granddaughter Ainsley; sister Evelyn, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Dad was predeceased by his parents, James and Lila McRae; brothers, Earl and Brent; sisters, Ramona and June.
Dad grew up on a farm in Elva, Manitoba where he learned the value of hard work and helping others. Stricken by Polio at the age of two, it would force him to wear a leg brace made from steel that Grandpa McRae made in the blacksmith shop until the day Dad passed. Never a whimper or whine came from Dad regarding his setback, he was as hearty and durable as they come. Dad was never going to be a person that sat at a desk - that just was not his thing. As a young man Dad rode rail from town to town, province to province, either as a farm hand or junior mechanic. Eventually finding his way to Winnipeg where he was a mechanic at Kingsway Transportation for 25 years before retiring.
Dad was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His gritty personality and unmatched sense of humour were what everyone loved about him. One of Dad's favourite sayings was "ah bullshit!" You always knew where you stood with Dad because he was not one to mince words. Dad would catch you off guard with cringe worthy moments or make you burst out laughing because you thought to yourself... "did he just say that!"
Jim, Dad, Grandpa, you meant so much to all of us. When we think of you our hearts fill with pride. Your mischievous smile is already so sorely missed, your gentle kindness was always felt, you have left a hole in our hearts that can never be filled. We miss you dearly. We love you Dad.

Dear Lorraine, and family. I have no words to describe the loss I feel. Even though we weren't that close lately, I have many fond memories of my Uncle Jim. Always with a smile, a teasing joke (hey toothpick he used to say to me). Lorraine and Jim never failed to let my mom know when Irish singers or dancers were on TV. He always called mom "Irish". There were many times I babysat the kids when they were small and enjoyed my time with Uncle Jim and Aunty Lorraine. I have thought about you so much and remember the past with great happiness.
